๐ซถ Last night's structure fire at the Summerside Electric Power Plant was an unsettling situation. Thanks to the swift, professional response of our first responders and City staff, the incident was safely contained. While assessments are still underway and we continue to learn more about the impacts, we are grateful that everyone is safe
We would like to sincerely thank the @SummersideFire, @SsidePolice and multiple City Departments who were on hand and responded without hesitation.
This situation was a strong reminder of the dedication, coordination, and professionalism of the people who work behind the scenes โ often in high-pressure situations โ to keep our community safe.
We are incredibly proud of our team and grateful for their calm leadership, teamwork, and commitment to Summerside. ๐

An SFD crew will remain on site overnight as a precaution.

The plant's exhaust system ignited as result of the Summerside Electric diesel generators operating at high capacity to meet peak energy loads over the last few days.

We are asking the public to avoid the immediate and nearby areas. At this time, no evacuation of residents is required. Updates to come.
