HM SHAH : "I was diabetic earlier 🤯
I made a huge change in my life since May 2020 till today.
I fixed my sleep, improved water intake, diet & regular exercise 🔥
That has given me a lot.
Today, I am free from any kind of allopathic medicine and insulin.

🚨 UPSC Mains GS Paper 1: How Toppers Add Value & Score 120+ Marks
GS Paper 1 (History, Geography & Society) is often considered the most scoring paper if answers are enriched with data, timelines, maps, thinkers, and contemporary linkages.
🧵 Thread👇
1️⃣ MODERN INDIAN HISTORY
Don't just narrate events. Show analysis.
✅ Add 3–4 point timelines
Example:
Non-Cooperation Movement:
1920 → Launch
1921 → Peak Mobilization
1922 → Chauri Chaura
1922 → Withdrawal
Timelines improve presentation instantly.
2️⃣ Use ideological comparisons.
Tilak vs Gokhale
• Tilak → Assertive nationalism
• Gokhale → Constitutional reforms
Such contrasts demonstrate deeper understanding and fetch extra marks.
3️⃣ Add powerful historical data:
📌 Bengal Famine (1943): ~3 million deaths
📌 Drain of Wealth: Dadabhai Naoroji estimated £200–300 million annual drain
📌 Quit India (1942): 60,000+ arrests, 1,000+ deaths
📌 Partition (1947): 12–14 million displaced
Facts make answers credible.
4️⃣ Always conclude with contemporary relevance.
Example:
"The freedom struggle not only secured political independence but also laid the foundations of democratic governance, federalism and constitutional values in modern India."
5️⃣ WORLD HISTORY
Most aspirants write descriptive answers.
Instead use:
Cause → Event → Impact Flowcharts
Example:
Economic Crisis → Rise of Hitler → WWII → UN Formation → New World Order
Examiner loves structured thinking.
6️⃣ Link World History with India.
WWI → Economic hardship → Rise of Indian nationalism
Cold War → Birth of NAM
Decolonization → India's leadership in Afro-Asian solidarity
Global events become more relevant when connected to India.
7️⃣ Important value points:
📌 French Revolution: Liberty, Equality, Fraternity
📌 Industrial Revolution: Urbanisation & labour class
📌 Cold War: NAM as India's strategic response
📌 Decolonisation: India inspired 50+ nations
8️⃣ INDIAN SOCIETY
One of the highest scoring sections if supported with sociological theories and government data.
Many aspirants ignore this advantage.
9️⃣ Gender Questions
Use:
📊 NFHS-5
📊 Sex Ratio
📊 TFR
📊 MMR
📊 Women's Reservation Act 2023
📊 CEDAW
Data transforms generic answers into high-quality answers.
🔟 Caste & Social Justice
Add:
✔ NCRB atrocity statistics
✔ Constitutional safeguards
✔ Recent Supreme Court judgments
✔ Reservation-related developments
Blend sociology + governance.
1️⃣1️⃣ Sociology Thinkers to Quote
🔹 Parsons (Functionalism)
Society functions through interdependent institutions.
🔹 Marx (Conflict Theory)
Social change emerges from conflict and power struggles.
🔹 Modernization Theory
Transition from traditional to modern society.
🔹 Feminist Theory
Patriarchy as structural inequality.
One relevant thinker can significantly improve answer quality.
1️⃣2️⃣ GEOGRAPHY
Golden Rule:
🗺️ DRAW MAPS
Maps are not decoration.
Maps are marks.
Even rough maps create strong visual impact.
1️⃣3️⃣ Add maps in answers on:
✔ Monsoon
✔ Rivers
✔ Mountains
✔ Mineral belts
✔ Agriculture
✔ Industrial regions
✔ Population distribution
A 20-second sketch map can differentiate your answer.
1️⃣4️⃣ Use diagrams whenever possible.
Examples:
🌧 Water Cycle
🌍 Carbon Cycle
🌦 Monsoon Mechanism
👥 Demographic Transition Model
Diagrams improve clarity and presentation.
1️⃣5️⃣ Geography data worth remembering:
📌 India Area: 3.28 million sq km
📌 Population (2024): ~1.44 billion
📌 Coastline: 7,516 km
📌 Indo-Gangetic Plain supports ~40% population on ~15% land
Ready-made value additions.
1️⃣6️⃣ Key Geography Facts
🌿 Western Ghats
• UNESCO World Heritage Site
• 5,000+ flowering plants
• 139 mammal species
⛰ Deccan Plateau
• ~16% of India's area
• Rich basalt soils & mineral resources
1️⃣7️⃣ Link Geography with Current Affairs.
Examples:
✔ Uttarakhand floods → Himalayan fragility
✔ Chennai floods → Urban planning issues
✔ Heatwaves → Climate change impacts
Contemporary examples instantly enrich answers.
1️⃣8️⃣ UPSC Mains Secret:
For every GS1 answer include at least one of:
✅ Timeline
✅ Map
✅ Diagram
✅ Data
✅ Thinker
✅ Constitutional Link
✅ Current Affairs Example
This is what separates average answers from top-scoring answers.
🎯 GS1 is not about writing more.
It's about adding VALUE.
Presentation + Analysis + Evidence = Higher Marks.

Priyank,
Every citizen has the right to ask questions in a democracy. But credibility demands consistency.
Before lecturing the RSS on values, transparency, and public life, it is worth remembering that you yourself studied at Poorna Prajna Education Centre, Udupi—an institution nurtured by a tradition that has long championed Indian culture, nationalism, character-building, and civilizational values. Surely, you are well aware of the ethos and ideals that shaped that institution.
The RSS has spent the last 100 years working openly among the people. Its shakhas, service activities, disaster relief efforts, educational initiatives, and nation-building contributions are visible across the country. Millions of swayamsevaks serve society selflessly without seeking political office, government patronage, or personal gain.
If transparency is indeed the concern, then the same standards must apply equally to political parties, their internal democracy, dynastic structures, funding mechanisms, and fulfillment of electoral promises.
One may disagree with the RSS ideologically. That is perfectly legitimate. But attempting to cast suspicion on an organization that has earned public trust through a century of service, sacrifice, and social work raises questions about the intent behind such criticism.
Trust cannot be manufactured through letters, press statements, or political rhetoric. It is earned through decades of service to society.

UPSC Prelims 2026 Changed the Game
For the first time, aspirants reported multiple Ethics-style and governance-based questions in GS Paper-I.
These were not direct GS-4 questions.
Instead, UPSC tested:
✅ Administrative judgment
✅ Public interest reasoning
✅ Governance ethics
✅ Decision-making under constraints
✅ Constitutional values in application
Expected question formats:
🔹 Situational MCQs
Officer faces a dilemma → choose the most appropriate response.
🔹 Application MCQs
Real-world governance scenario → identify the ethical principle involved.
🔹 Conceptual MCQs
Integrity, Probity, Conflict of Interest, Constitutional Morality.
🔹 Assertion-Reason
Governance principle + ethical justification.
The biggest shift in 2026 wasn't Ethics as a separate subject.
It was UPSC's move from:
📚 "Do you know?"
to
🧠 "Can you reason?"
This is why many candidates found GS Paper-I unusually analytical and unpredictable.
Future preparation should focus on:
Rights → Rule of Law → Stakeholders → Public Interest → Proportionality
That's the emerging UPSC governance reasoning framework.
#UPSC #UPSCPrelims #Ethics #GS1 #CivilServices
Most UPSC aspirants fail before they even start preparing.
Not because they are lazy.
Not because they lack intelligence.
But because they never truly understand the syllabus.
The first thing I expect from an aspirant :
Know what UPSC is actually testing. 🧵
1️⃣ UPSC is NOT one exam.
It's 3 exams:
• Prelims → Entry Gate
• Mains → Rank Decider
• Interview → Personality Test
Most beginners spend months studying without understanding this structure.
2️⃣ PRELIMS (100 Questions)
Think of it as a screening round.
Subjects include:
• History
• Geography
• Polity
• Economy
• Environment
• Science & Tech
• Current Affairs
Your goal is simple:
Clear the cutoff.
Nothing more.
3️⃣ There's also CSAT.
Many beginners ignore it.
Big mistake.
You need only 33%, but every year thousands fail because they assume it is "easy."
CSAT tests:
• Reading comprehension
• Reasoning
• Basic maths
• Decision making
4️⃣ If Prelims is the gate...
Mains is the real battlefield.
This is where ranks are made.
7 papers.
1750 marks.
Your writing ability matters more than your memory.
5️⃣ Mains tests whether you can think like an administrator.
Can you:
• Analyse issues?
• Connect topics?
• Present balanced arguments?
• Suggest solutions?
UPSC rewards thinkers, not parrots.
6️⃣ Mains consists of:
• Essay
• GS-1 (History, Society, Geography)
• GS-2 (Polity, Governance, IR)
• GS-3 (Economy, Environment, Security, S&T)
• GS-4 (Ethics)
• Optional Subject Paper 1
• Optional Subject Paper 2
7️⃣ Your Optional alone carries 500 marks.
That's nearly 25% of your final score.
Choose it carefully.
Master it deeply.
Never select an optional just because someone else topped with it.
8️⃣ Then comes the Interview.
275 marks.
UPSC is not checking your English.
They're checking:
• Maturity
• Honesty
• Decision making
• Awareness
• Temperament
The board wants to know:
"Can this person become a responsible civil servant?"
9️⃣ Final Rank =
Mains (1750)
Interview (275)
= 2025 marks
Prelims marks don't count.
Read that again.
The exam most people obsess over doesn't decide your rank.
🔟 This is why blindly collecting books is useless.
Before buying resources...
Before joining courses...
Before making timetables...
Print the syllabus.
Read it 10 times.
Every topper knows the syllabus.
Most aspirants only know the exam name.
UPSC preparation starts when you stop studying topics and start understanding the syllabus.
Everything else comes later.
@PriyaSinh26@RBI@AshwiniVaishnaw@RailMinIndia Really don't know why these railways are like this
Bcz of train delays many aspirants are unable the reach the centre on time
Now who is responsible for this!???

I = Introduction (10%)
Keep it short:
• Definition
• Data point
• Current example
Example:
"Urbanization refers to the increasing concentration of population in urban areas. India is expected to have nearly 600 million urban residents by 2030."
That's it. Move on.
Most aspirants think AIR 1 answers are filled with extraordinary content.
Reality?
Anudeep Durishetty's strength was not writing more. It was writing better-structured answers that an examiner could understand in seconds.
His formula: I-B-C
✅ Introduction
✅ Body
✅ Conclusion

The biggest lessons from UPSC Prelims 2026
• NCERTs matter.
• Revision matters more than collecting resources.
• CSAT can destroy even a strong attempt.
• PYQ analysis is becoming more important every year.
• UPSC loves conceptual traps more than direct questions now.
