A11: I was able to attend a session on Nearpod earlier this year. It was modeled with one remote teacher and one in-person teacher. This mini PD opportunity was a reminder that interactive can be engaging. #rEDTECHguy
A10: EdPuzzle allows a quick, at-a-glance, view of student progress. I can tell who struggled and on which concepts. One helpful feature is the ability to customize videos & questions. #rEDTECHguy
A9: IT has helped students to become familiar with some sites that they do not know. Students, this year, were used to “Googling” a definition vs. using sites such as https://t.co/UWgVwEZHHp or https://t.co/tMnY9Ontyz. #rEDTECHguy
A8: I would love more time to experiment and collaborate on best practices. Colleagues have approached me and asked questions about syncing between programs (GC and other platforms), and I’ve been able to help, which I am happy to do! Helping is a great refresher! #rEDTECHguy
A7: Students experience enjoyment as they witness Wheel of Names, randomly, land on a friend. WON remains a simple, but engaging technology tool. As we near the end of the year, I find myself gravitating towards more paper, more done in class = more original ideas. #rEDTECHguy
A6: My ELMO and my Ladybug (both overhead projector tools) have had their share of concerns lately. 1) Remain calm. 2) Go to “Plan B” = simply typing it out or a good ol’ fashioned white-board and an Expo. Remember the days of a chalkboard? #rEDTECHguy
A5: If a student is struggling with a particular skill on IXL, I can ask them to work on the grade level below until they reach mastery. The same applies for students who need a challenge. Many are motivated by working on a skill, above grade-level. #rEDTECHguy
A4: Edpuzzle is useful for a quick review of language concepts like connotation and denotation. Its ability to sync to GC is a plus. IXL is another useful practice tool that allows students to practice language skills and the educator to track that progress. #rEDTECHguy
A3: Since approved apps are right in Classlink, there’s little guesswork about what to use or what not to use. It’s “click and go”! The Classlink interface is convenient and user friendly. Love it! #rEDTECHguy
A2: Some students used Canva for their recent research project. For those students who opted to use Canva, they taught us research skills, AND were teaching Canva simultaneously! I plan to use Canva in the future!
#rEDTECHguy
A1: Just last week, students used Google Slides or Canva to present their research claim, counterclaim, evidence and reasoning. This technology allowed students a choice in the visual aid to express their synthesis of material. #rEDTECHguy
A12: As an NYS ELA 7 teacher, I use the Next Generation English Language Arts learning standards to determine the skills a lesson will cover. I also use student progress and discussion with my colleagues to determine which skills still need additional practice. #rEDTECHguy
A11: Students make connections by recalling and sharing their experiences, both verbally and in writing. Modeling an example first is a great way to help them feel confident enough to share their own experiences. #rEDTECHguy
A10: Real-world scenarios that capture interest make great research topics! Topics that have come up recently are music therapy, the detrimental effects of vaping and school safety concerns. After students conclude research, they will teach the class their findings. #rEDTECHguy
A9:Students respond positively to choice. In our current research unit, students can choose to work together to support each other. Students are responsible for their own project, but collaborate to navigate the research process. #rEDTECHguy
A8: Students love to tell you what they think, so I simply ask them. A Google Form is another quick and easy way to take a poll at the start of class, in order to help drive instruction that day or in the future.
#rEDTECHguy
A7: Praise goes a long way. As you are passing by, you’re likely to hear, “Give them a round of applause!” You can also hear one of our positive praise bells going off in 237. (Yes, it’s an actual table top service bell.) #rEDTECHguy
A6: Classlink helps both students and teachers to remain organized and it provides easy access to helpful resources. Google Classroom has digitized many aspects of teaching as we once knew it. I’m actually trying to recall teaching pre Google Classroom… #rEDTECHguy
A5: 1) Google Forms allow teachers formative feedback. 2) Rotating while students work in collaborative settings is extremely insightful! Observing in live time allows for immediate feedback and clarification. #rEDTECHguy
A4: For a student who needs a challenge or for one who is struggling, instruction can be differentiated by having the student work with a skill slightly above or below level; knowing their skill level is key. #rEDTECHguy
