Three hour commute from Chennai to Trichy:
NHAI gets the 300-km long greenfield national expressway project rolling after chief minister C Joseph Vijay in the recent Niti Aayog meet urged union govt to take up the project & fast track it.
This will be TN’s second NE, after the upcoming Chennai-Bengaluru NE-7. Budget: Rs 20,000 crores.
NHAI held consultation meeting with revenue, environment and state highways dept. Early alignment discussions proposed entry/exit at Singaperumal Kovil junction, and the corridor will run along the western side of Chennai-Trichy highway.
90m right of way will be acquired. With top speeds at 120kmph, Chennai-Trichy can be covered in 3 hours, say officials. They said centre & state are on same page to give priority to this project. 12 districts will have access to this corridor.
Currently, vehicles are stuck badly from Chengalpet to Paranur due to four lane CTH.

Diesel prices increased by Rs. 2.71 per litre and petrol by Rs. 2.61 per litre. Diesel in Delhi hiked to Rs 95.20 per litre, and Petrol hiked to Rs 102.12.
Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay has ordered the revamp and modernisation of Amma Unavagams across the state.
At present, 383 Amma Unavagams are functioning under the Greater Chennai Corporation, while another 237 are operated by other corporations and municipalities across Tamil Nadu.
The chief minister held consultations with senior government officials and directed authorities to upgrade infrastructure facilities at the canteens, immediately procure necessary cooking equipment, and ensure uninterrupted supply of hygienic and quality food to the public.
The chief minister also ordered that expenses for the renovation works and procurement of equipment be met from the general funds of corporations and municipalities.
