the North-East.

For the first time, the terrorists were pushed back
so hard that many influential voices from the
North began to complain loudly.

His operations were so decisive that some
northern elites even accused him of "ethnic
cleansing." That was how fierce the campaign
against Boko Haram became

Eventually, the political pressure mounted and he
stepped aside.
Since his departure, the story of Nigeria's fight
against insurgency has largely been one of
struggle and setbacks. Many Nigerians believe the
country has never quite regained that level of bold
and decisive military leadership.

Some people say it openly:

"It takes an Igbo man to confront danger without
fear."

If Nigeria truly wants to defeat insurgency,
competence must come before politics. The
leadership of critical security positions-
especially the National Security Adviser (NSA) and
the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) - should be based
on ability, courage, and commitment to the
country.

Until then, Nigeria may continue playing ethnic
politics while innocent lives and properties are
lost.
