The three editors who worked with Akira Toriyama throughout his career as a mangaka strongly criticized how Shueisha reacted to the Master’s death. They argued that the company gave him no official recognition at all. Toriyama received much more affection from the rest of the world than from the very people who saw him grow as an artist.
They expected at least a statue in his honor to celebrate the incredible global legacy he left behind, but there was nothing even remotely close to that.
