Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a “friend” and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive?

Why couldn’t a non-compliant commercial vessel have been stopped using other, non-lethal means? Is it not possible to disable a ship's propulsion or steering without firing missiles targeted to kill civilian crew members?

Practically every merchant ship navigating these crucial waters has Indian crew on board. Are they all considered fair game for US missiles now?

This approach is unacceptable and I hope @DrSJaishankar had said so to @marcorubio.

The Indian family laws need three crucial reforms.

1. Gender-neutral legislation for DV, abuse, child custody, alimony etc.

2. Equal access to protection orders

3. Heavy penalties for misusing/weaponising the laws - on both - the lawyer, and the party who misuses.

स्वामी अविमुक्तेश्वरानन्द सरस्वती महाराज जी को उनके पूर्वाधिकारी ने आदि शंकराचार्य के मठाम्नाय अनुशासन के अनुसार ज्योतिमठ @jyotirmathah के शंकराचार्य पद पर नियुक्त किया था। उनका पट्टाभिषेक श्रृंगेरी शंकराचार्य @sringerimath जी द्वारा सम्पन्न हुआ था। यदि यह नियुक्ति गलत होती तो श्रृंगेरी शंकराचार्य जी उन्हें इस पद पर अभिषिक्त न करते। इसके अतिरिक्त, माननीय सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने 21 सितम्बर 2022 को सिविल अपील संख्या 3020/2020 के आदेश में उल्लेख किया है कि स्वामी अविमुक्तेश्वरानन्द सरस्वती महाराज जी ने ज्योतिमठ के शंकराचार्य पद को ग्रहण कर लिया है। साथ ही, भारत सरकार द्वारा स्थापित महर्षि सान्दीपनी राष्ट्रीय वेद विद्यालय प्रतिष्ठान, उज्जैन से सम्बद्ध तथा राष्ट्रीय पुस्तक न्यास द्वारा प्रकाशित वेद कल्पतरु (2023) में उन्हें ज्योतिमठ के शंकराचार्य के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है। इस पुस्तक की प्रस्तावना माननीय केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री जी ने लिखी है। अतः उनके पद की वैधता पर किसी को भी प्रश्न उठाने का अधिकार नहीं है।

ज्योतिमठ शंकराचार्य जी राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ-भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सरकारों की कुछ हिन्दू-विरोधी नीतियों तथा क्रियाकलापों की ओर संकेत कर रहे हैं — जिनमें गोमांस निर्यात को प्रोत्साहन, गौहत्या की निरन्तरता, काशी विश्वनाथ कॉरिडोर के नाम पर प्राचीन मन्दिरों का बड़े पैमाने पर विनाश तथा अयोध्या में श्री राम जन्मभूमि मन्दिर निर्माण के शिला न्यास तथा निर्माण में मुसलमानों को भागीदार बनाना आदि सम्मिलित हैं। यदि संघ-भाजपा सरकारें समझती हैं कि शंकराचार्य जी गलत हैं तो उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री जी स्वयं उनसे भेंट कर सही स्थिति स्पष्ट करें, अथवा सम्बन्धित मंत्रियों या अधिकारियों उनके पास जाकर तथ्य रखें और हिन्दू जनता को सही जानकारी उपलब्ध कराएँ। इसके बजाय संघ परिवार केवल गाली-गलौज तथा निन्दा-प्रचार में लगा हुआ है, जो स्वयं सिद्ध करता है कि शंकराचार्य जी द्वारा उठाए गए मुद्दे सत्य हैं और संघ-भाजपा हिन्दू-विरोधी कार्यों में संलग्न है।

अतः मैं आप समेत समस्त हिन्दुओं से निवेदन करता हूँ कि गुरु निन्दा से बचें — जो महापाप है। किसी गुरु से मतभेद किया जा सकता है अथवा उन्हें गुरु के रूप में स्वीकार न किया जा सकता है, किन्तु गुरु निन्दा करना सर्वथा अनुचित है।

The only “Modi Doctrine” that Indians actually experience—and endure—is the systematic surrender of India's national interests to protect one man's grip on power.

The second pillar of this so-called “Modi Doctrine” is relentless propaganda: layer upon layer of manufactured narrative, exaggeration, and denial. If Josef Goebbels were alive today, he would not merely applaud—he would enroll as an eager intern in Modi's propaganda machinery, taking notes on how to scale industrial-scale deception in the digital age.

The third tenet of this so-called “Modi Doctrine” is mob rule by digital foot soldiers: unleash armies of paid trolls and flunkeys to swarm, smear, and intimidate anyone who dares criticise Modi’s anti-India regime or expose its corrupt dealings. Their default question is always the same: "How much did the opposition pay you?"—as if truth can only be bought, never spoken.

The fourth aspect of this so-called “Modi Doctrine”, and perhaps most insidious, is the wholesale purchase or co-option of institutions: media houses turned stenographers, academics silenced or rewarded, intellectuals bought off or sidelined—all to whitewash crony deals, hide failures, and deify a leader who demands worship while delivering division and decay.

This is the lived reality under Modi's corrupt, anti-India regime—a far cry from the grandiose "Modi Doctrine" you advocate in your piece, which casts him as the guardian of the Indian Ocean against Chinese predation.

So I must ask directly: What exactly is the quid pro quo that prompted you to pen this fawning, detached-from-reality op-ed? Whose interests are you truly advancing here?
