I'll be turning 32 in 2 days. I had a lot of clarity and mindset shifts these past couple of years and a sort of quiet intentionality I didn't have in my 20s. Loving the 30s so far.
@sakagadget Ogun developments is stalled due to the local politics going on there. Abeokuta is not seen as a priority by governors who are non-egbas despite it being the capital and the egba elite cannot actually help themselves as they love selling their rights to the highest bidder.
Calling African ethnic groups tribes instead of Nations is where the original sin is. The Hausa and Yoruba Nations have higher populations than France and England.
Double Gee2x with @patorankingfire I remember when I was young and I usually listen to a lot of his music I love him so much he gave me a lot of advice majorly on the word HUMILITY
LMAO.
People who know nothing about Yoruba culture talking about us mischievously.
Female children in Yorubaland are as important as their male counterparts, infact the role of bèéré in the family is very important especially if she is the eldest child.
In several communities especially in Ondo state, the eldest female child becomes the Regent after an Oba’s demise until a prince is agreed upon to ascend the throne.
The Oniru of Iruland was crowned Oba in lieu of his mother’s lineage. While his father is from Ijora across the lagoon, his mother was a princess of the town and that is what qualified him for the throne. Yorubas do not reduce the importance of their female children.
Till date, Fela’s eldest child, Yeni is the head of their family and she manages his estate and this is the same across several families in the region.
Women are accorded their own powers to the extent that an Iyalode is regarded as a monarch in her own right and this is proven with the fact that she is allowed to have her own line of chiefs; Otun Iyalode, Osi Iyalode etc (as a child, Ebenezer Obey’s tribute to Simbiat Abiola when she became Otun to Iyalode Bisoye Tejuosho of Egbaland opened my eyes to this).
There are several instances I can give you to orientate you that at every level (nuclear, compound, ancestral), Yorubas have huge regards for female children and have a place for them in every sphere…this includes Ìṣẹ̀ṣe where women play their own major roles as there are different practices that have women as heads…aka Ìyánífá.
