“serial images and lab tests. They are readily available to examine and correlate with our physical exams, giving us an unmatched ability to improve, validate, become more confident in our skills, and sometimes even correct for the limitations of the technologies themselves.”
.@HopkinsMedicine's Samuel Durso says that the failure to develop "thorough & precise" #physicalexam skills has led to a dependence on lab & imaging technologies that can result in "delayed or missed" diagnoses. https://t.co/6TdcdiUvce
@SurgeryTalks@BJs#bjstweetchat . Agree. The suture material should be visible over the fascia when closure complete. And take care with the knots - the knot is the weakest part of the closure.
Jenkins’ 1976 @BJS, 30% postop wound expansion, 2.3% rise in suture tension with 1:4 wound/suture ratio, 1cm bites, 1cm apart. Same tension with 5mm bites, 5mm apart, at 1:4 ratio. ? Forces not the whole picture. ? Tight closure and tissue ischamia more important. #bjsconnect
