Tesla's Q4 shows exactly why narrative matters more than numbers in transition periods.
Yeah, they missed EPS by 8% and auto margins got squeezed. But the stock didn't move on that. What mattered was the earnings call, management spent 39 minutes on autonomy, robotics, and AI versus 8 minutes on vehicles. That ratio tells you everything.
We've seen this before: Amazon with AWS, Netflix with streaming, Apple shifting from iPods to iPhones. Same pattern: sacrifice near-term margins to fund the next S-curve.
And look, if Tesla genuinely believes autonomy is 80% of their future value, then maximizing car margins now would actually be the wrong move. You'd want to underprice for data capture and accept compression as the cost of building your moat. Which is exactly what they're doing.
The market priced the narrative shift, not the earnings miss. In transition periods, qualitative data matters more than quarterly GAAP numbers.
Charlie Kirk! My deepest condolences to the family. May God bless them and you. Forever and still.
You were a free spirited person, let nothing and no one ever take that from you.
