This map shows the geolocation of civilian deaths across Afghanistan since 1989, which I made based on the University of Uppsala’s Conflict dataset. Clearly illustrating the devastating impact of conflict on civilians.

The death toll during that year, which reached approximately 5,000, seems to be linked to the Taliban’s takeover of Mazar and the subsequent massacre of thousands of Hazaras.
