Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and Vancouver’s Filipino community after the tragic events at the Lapu Lapu Day celebration. Surrey DPAC stands with you in sorrow and support.
Image des: A piggy bank has a gold coin next to the caption “The BC govt invests in the future of our students." A kid in a clown outfit points out the joke w/ the reality of the almost halving of ed spending of the GDP since 2017 despite massive growth of Surrey student pop.
In 2017, Select Standing Committee on Finance & Government Services gave this recco: “With broad stakeholder input, review the per-pupil funding formula to develop a new needs-based, stable & sustainable model to fund actual costs, resource needs & pro dev of each school dist.”
Image desc: Secondary students sit outside next to the caption: "Secondary schools will be built or expanded before your kid graduates." A young kid in a clown outfit points out the joke as it takes years for a new school build to be approved & then average of 5 years to build.
Have you wondered why it takes so long for schools to be built? 8 months to see if you're approved, generally not approved the 1st year. On average, 5 years to build once funded. #notanaprilfoolsjoke#bced#SurreyBC#bcpoli#inclusion
Image desc: 2 pictures of diff aged learners reference the K-12 next to the caption “All learning spaces are fully funded by the BC govt." A young kid in a clown outfit points out the joke with the reality of $107 million that Surrey Schools has contr to capital proj since 2017.
Where does $$$ come from for learning spaces? School districts are required to contribute to capital projects by the BC government. Since 2017, the Surrey School District has contributed $107 million to capital projects. #notanaprilfoolsjoke#bced#SurreyBC#bcpoli#inclusion
When the BC government talks about the amount of money they spend on Surrey capital projects, it does not include the contributions from Surrey Schools.
The cost of portables (purchase, install and site moves) have been funded by the school district. In the 2023/24 school year, Surrey Schools has spent $5.7 million dollars on moving portables in our district.
Wouldn't it be great if teachers & staff could take sick days & know there will be a sub to cover their class? Each day, about 100 classes have no sub - students can lose learning supports, library access & music classes.
