Over in #AD68, @VoteJessieLopez is having a much better time this week than last. On June 4th, Lopez was 7.5% from being the second-place candidate.
On the 5th, it was 5.4%.
On the 6th it was 3.9%.
Today, it was 1.3%.
Tomorrow is going to be the day to watch the updates there.
Four years ago this week, I left the LA Times and almost 30 years worth of journalism. In my final column, I wrote about what *really* is the problem with voting in California. Just as true now as it was then…
LA hot take.
In 2022 @RickCarusoLA came out of election night with a 5-pt lead on @KarenBassLA, and ended up losing by 7pts.
The early vote in LA is 14-pts more Rep, more male, and older Dems are voting later.
An early number of 40% for @spencerpratt is possible.
But that number is not durable. It plummets with the later ballots.
Remember when Republicans drew Virginia's Congressional map so Black people were packed into one district and said we should be grateful they gave our community this district. NOW they can have one district and see how much they love it.
Congratulations to State Representative Elect Emily Gregory on flipping HD 87 in Palm Beach County! So thrilled to welcome her to our Democratic House caucus!
Thank you @DoloresHuerta for your courage and enduring leadership, and to all who have come forward.
"Dolores Huerta Day" really has a ring to it 🌼🍇✊🏽
Historically our movements have canonized one male figurehead, even when women have built and run the movements alongside them. The women making history are doing so while navigating power dynamics which can easily take the form of exploitation. Similar to #MeToo, it's no surprise that women have faced abuse, from even our most celebrated heroes. But it's up to us to denounce it, stand with survivors, and define a better future.
@closethegapCA is committed to elevating women's experiences and leadership so that we have the opportunity to build new systems and models of power at every level. On March 31st this year, let's celebrate the women!
GET REAL: Open letter from @CA_Dem chair Rusty Hicks to NINE Democratic candidates for #CAgov urging them to get real with themselves and drop out if they don’t have a VIABLE path to win.
9 Democrats risk handing top 2 slots to Republicans in June. https://t.co/NAUuKuyJYK
🚨LIVE: Crowds in Vallejo, CA just kicked off for Sutter pickets at Solano Medical Center. 🚨
We won’t be silent while our communities are left behind. From Sacramento to San Francisco, we’re demanding care that puts people first—not profits. 💪 We are Sutter healthcare workers. And we are fighting back.

Every day IS a good day for succession planning.
Especially when you care to elect women!
So few individuals (elected or not) or organizations have the bandwidth to make recruiting their sole focus, when they're working to solve the crises right in front of us. That's the beauty of @closethegapCA when dominos start to shake!
A new generation of strong, values-aligned women leaders will continue to serve as the front line of protection for our most vulnerable communities in this critical moment and the years to come.

Congratulations to Senator Monique Limón (CTG Class of 2016) on her election as the next Senate Pro Tem! She will be the first woman of color, Latina and mom to lead the chamber and preside over a historic, majority-women Senate.
Let’s be clear: ICE injured and detained the president of SEIU California for peacefully observing.
ICE picked the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. and the wrong union. David Huerta stood up. And 750,000 SEIU workers are standing with him.

The @CAgovernor just proposed 1/2 BILLION in cuts to repro and will effectively defund Planned Parenthood in CA, the same morning Republicans debated defunding PP nationwide in Congress. Happy to go on his Podcast and explain why this devastates women’s health in his state.
📢CTG in @latimes@SenatorBoxer op-ed:
"The Golden State’s path to parity has not been serendipity or an inevitable result of California liberalism...One group of activists realized that targeted recruiting of women for specific districts could be a game changer." < that's us 😎
