BREAKING: Hegseth MELTED DOWN and accused a senator of "Trump derangement syndrome" after being confronted with his own failed war claims in antagonistic Senate hearing.

Pete Hegseth walked into today's Senate Appropriations Committee hearing hoping to sail through a routine budget request.

Instead, he got cornered twice, and by the end, he was reduced to screaming about "Trump derangement syndrome" at a sitting United States senator.

Senator Jon Ossoff opened by honoring the sacrifices of American service members — expressing "immense gratitude and admiration" for Georgians who served, along with condolences for the four killed in action and hopes for recovery for the nearly 100 wounded over just the last two weeks. Two weeks. Not at the start of this war. Now.

Then Ossoff got to the numbers. Hegseth is requesting $67 billion in emergency supplemental funding to keep this war funded — a staggering sum for a conflict Trump promised would last "four to five weeks."

But Ossoff's sharpest moment came when he read Hegseth's own words back to him. On day 14 of this war, nearly five months ago, Hegseth publicly declared Iran's military had been "destroyed" and "made combat ineffective." Confronted with that claim today, Hegseth had no choice but to walk it back in real time, admitting Iran's military capabilities are merely at "the lowest level they've been in a very long time" — a far cry from "destroyed."

But it was Senator Gary Peters who really lit the fuse. Peters pointed out that Iran's missiles hitting recent targets are somehow MORE lethal and maneuverable than before, that the Strait of Hormuz — open before Trump's war — remains closed, driving up prices for everyone, and that American service members are still dying. "So what's different, Secretary Hegseth?" he asked.

Hegseth didn't answer. He attacked. He accused Peters of "smearing the sacrifice of the troops" and thundered, "Shame on you." When Peters asked plainly whether Iran's nuclear material is still there, Hegseth dodged into a speech about troop "intensity."

Then Peters delivered the line of the day: "You, sir, are the failure. Not the men and women who are on that front line... but if there's a lack of a winning strategy, their leaders have failed them. You don't have a strategy. When will you show leadership?"

Hegseth's response was pure deflection: "Why don't you show some leadership and stand up for your fellow Democrats who won't fund the troops... you have Trump derangement syndrome and can't actually commit to anything meaningful."

Peters wasn't having it: "You have over a trillion dollars. It's not a question of money. It's a question of leadership."

Chair Susan Collins had to gavel the hearing closed before Hegseth could dig himself any deeper.

Nearly five months into a war Trump promised would take five weeks. $67 billion requested. American troops still dying. And when confronted with hard questions, America's Secretary of Defense chose to scream insults rather than answer for his own failures.

BREAKING: BRAVO! Senator Mark Kelly gives the PERFECT response when asked if America is ready for a disabled First Lady in his wife, Gabby Giffords: "We have a disabled President right now."

And that's not all he said...

Giffords was shot in the head by a would-be assassin in Arizona in 2011. Thankfully, she survived the attack and has made an astounding recovery, though her brain suffered damage to the region that handles speech in the form of non-fluent aphasia.

In a new piece in The Atlantic, Kelly discussed the possibility of running for President. The reporter covered the unique marriage dynamic between the senator and his wife. Whereas Giffords was once a chatterbox who handled most of the talking, she's now more limited in her speech and Kelly does most of the talking.

At one point during his conversations with the two, reporter Mark Leibovich asked Kelly if America is ready for a "disabled" First Lady.

“Hey, in my opinion, we have a disabled president right now," said Kelly.

The difference, of course, is that Giffords's disability was caused by a bloodthirsty gunman and Trump's is the result of worsening cognitive decline from aging, likely dementia. And while the former has overcome her challenges to become one of the nation's leading advocates for gun violence prevention, the latter has allowed his rotting mind to destroy the global economy, alienate every single one of our allies, and start a doomed and illegal war with Iran.

Senator Kelly could not stop singing Giffords's praises and we don't blame him. She's an awe-inspiring woman.

“The way she connects with people is unlike anybody else I’ve ever known,” Kelly said of his wife. “Before she was injured, people used to compare her with Bill Clinton.”

"She’s been in this business. And she had, you know, like the worst thing that any politician could have happen, right? She gets shot in the head," he added.

Together, she and Kelly strike an inspiring couple that offers a stark contrast from the pedophile and fascist enabler who currently inhabit the White House.

“Certainly, if I was not married to Gabby, I would not be sitting here,” Kelly said during another conversation with Leibovich. “And if she wasn’t shot, I mean, I wouldn’t be here, right?”

Russ Clark, a retired U.S. Marine Corps infantry commander who served in Vietnam and holds a graduate degree in mental health counseling, issued a scathing assessment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, stating that his ten-year acquaintance with Hegseth allowed him to diagnose the defense secretary as "an arrogant, inebriated, misogynistic, cruel, sadistic, adolescent psychopath" who is now "controlling the strongest military in world history like he's playing a video game".
Clark's post on Threads (March 2026), carries particular weight given his credentials as both a combat veteran and retired United Methodist minister who now serves as a chaplain to veterans.
