Spent last week in Florida. Beautiful weather. Great time. Of course, the climate hangover of returning to cloudy chilly weather is always a bummer - but this time it came with a silver lining.

Upon returning to the MSP Airport, my wife left her phone in the gate area. We didn't realize it until after we left the airport and got home. Once we got home to Lakeville, I tried calling the number of her missing phone and an Airport Police Officer answered. I asked him how we could get the phone back and he shared his number with me and said he would meet me outside the airport at the arrivals level. I drove back to the airport, I found him outside, he gave me the phone, I thanked him and all is well.

Now this is a basic story. We lost something. Someone turned it in (rather than stealing it). When I called, the cop answered (rather than ignoring the call). The officer shared his number and walked outside to meet me (rather than making me park, walk around and find him).

All simple stuff that made my day a lot better. All simple things that don't happen at a lot of other places. But they still do in Minnesota.

It's been a tough 12 years for my Minnesota. Everyone knows we need to make some difficult changes to get our state back on track. But simple experiences like I had yesterday, remind me of why I still love my home state.
