The problem with children’s services not being accountable is that when a young person reads their care records they see the abuse, yet have no answers for why they were left in such a dire situation. Also, they cannot claim compensation for therapy and distress
I want to change a law. I want children’s services to be held accountable for abuse to children who are on section 47 Child Protection Plan. Not just children in care. This way abuse cannot continue for years on section 47s #ChildrensServices#CEP#section47
I write this as I lay in bed and ponder over what could have been. What life could have been if I and my twin entered care on our first section 47 at 2. Not our 8th at 14. CPTSD builds up the longer children are in danger. Abuse rises in these homes #CEP
@NorwichCC I’ve spoken to them directly multiple times. And will now go public until you house my vulnerable brother appropriately. No one from @NorwichCC cares
The problem with these “parenting courses” is that children still go through abuse. I was removed into care but my brother stayed in abusive home. He now isn’t entitled to care leaver rights. As such he is homeless. Sleeping on my sofa. NCC do your job!
Please give my brother appropriate housing. He has no cooking facilities, no washing machines and no door on his “pod”. This is after 6 days of fighting. He’s on disability benefits. How can he be expected to afford daily takeaways 3x day? And laundrettes?
So, since March the @NorwichCC knew I ( a 20 year old vulnerable person with autism, learning difficulties and impaired in one eye due to a cornea abrasion ) would be homeless as of last week on Wednesday the 17th of September, they then allowed me to rough sleep for this week
@NorwichCC When will you house my brother who is autistic and got learning disabilities? You know his case, he is homeless because of his father left him after getting eviction notice. Please help
Jenni Bensted, my brothers housing officer had been in touch on the phone twice since my brother became homeless. To ask the same questions “what is his medical conditions” claiming he is vulnerable in temp acom by being autistic but not vulnerable homeless @NorwichCC
@SusanLake98@NorwichCC refuse to believe, you have NO temporary accommodation for an autistic person, and is left sofa surfing with his disabled sister, who requires a LOT of care, with a wheelchair. Disgraceful. And then a housing officer not replying.
@NorwichCC Jenni Bensted is his housing officer, can you get her to contact either me or him. And get him temporary accommodation. He is a young person who is homeless because his dad didn’t pay the rent and then left him. They know this. It is not his fault. So he shouldn’t be punished
Has anyone had an issue with moving from #esa to #UC and their housing association now wanting to be in rent credit even though #housingbenefit pays in arrears? #OrbitHousing trying to get me to set up a payment plan to get in £700 credit that I simply don’t have #disabled
How are disabled people supposed to get a job? You need driving licenses (I’m visually impaired so unable to drive). There’s manual handling (im a full time powerchair user). You apply and they say no. There’s loads of carer jobs but as someone who receives care it’s not for me..
Being part of this conference was such a huge opportunity for me. I gained so much insight from the other panelist’s and presenters regarding health and children in care and care leavers. Thank you for having me!
We’re pleased to welcome Dr Claire Baker from @CoramVoice & Susan Lake, a postgraduate student in International Relations, care leaver, and @CoramVoice volunteer. Together, they share the findings of their recent project, shedding light on the lived realities behind the data.
