BREAKING: House Republicans just advanced their voter suppression bill in the Rules Committee.
If the Rule passes tomorrow, the SAVE Act will automatically be added to the National Defense Authorization Act when it passes.
This bill will make it harder to register to vote, especially if you’re a woman, live in a rural community, serve in the military, or are a Tribal voter.
If you’re wealthy enough to have a passport, you’re fine. But more than 21 million Americans don’t have one. Under the SAVE Act, a REAL driver’s license in many states or other common forms of ID wouldn’t be enough to register.
Don’t call this a voter ID bill. A true voter ID law could accept a REAL ID driver’s license.
This isn’t about election security. It’s about making it harder for eligible Americans to vote.
Twice within hours, Russia struck civilian buses in Zaporizhzhia. Three people were killed, while over 10 passengers, including children, were injured. These were ordinary people travelling through the city when Russia deliberately targeted civilian transport.
Today, Russia also launched a missile strike on Dnipro, attacked Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs, struck emergency responders in Nikopol, and hit the Sumy, Odesa, Chernihiv, and Kherson regions.
In Kharkiv, one person was killed and at least 12 were injured after Russian guided bombs hit a civilian enterprise, damaging a tram and railway tracks.
These attacks are part of Russia’s systematic campaign of terror against Ukrainian civilians. Every additional air defence system and every interceptor missile delivered to Ukraine means more lives protected. Strengthening Ukraine’s air defence is one of the fastest and most effective ways to save civilians from Russia’s terror.
This case will not be talked about much, but today the Supreme Court abolished the independence of many federal agencies. It is a decision that will grant the President more power than a king.
"An opaque White House office staffed largely by veterans of Musk’s DOGE has quietly rebuilt some of the federal government’s most sensitive websites – for passport applications, voter registration, prescription-drug pricing and children’s savings – in ways critics say appear to violate federal law"
The Supreme Court must be reformed or dismantled at this point. It's a rogue body filled with 6 right wing extremists who want to replace democracy with a white Christian King. If a politician doesn't support Court reform then they arent the leaders for this moment. Step aside.
Kasparov: My triad since day one of the full-scale war — Ukraine's victory, Russia's defeat, collapse of the empire. That is the only outcome this war can have.
Only the liquidation of Putin. No other options exist. While Putin is there, it is war. Only his liquidation. 1/
reshaping the military so that if/when T***p requires a military coup to remain in office, US military will be MAGA-controlled & obedient to his command.
nothing could be plainer to see--yet---no one seems capable of stopping it nor does the media seem eager to investigate.
The WH got the MSPB, which is supposed to protect fed’l civil servants, to agree that “Article II of the Constitution gives Mr. Trump the power to dismiss officials without due process. By that theory, he can essentially erase civil service protections, even for public servants”
most coups are dramatic military takeovers of power; this "slow coup in plain sight" instigated by rightwing strategists has been long coming, not secret & confidential.
virtually everyone could see it coming, like a tornado at the horizon: relentless gerrymandering, placing of "conservative" judges & Supreme Court justices; ultra-wealthy influencing elections, notably E. M. "assisting" T***p to victory in 2024; takeover of major media by the ultra-wealthy.
it is actually surprising that so much free speech remains in the US at least until now, on social media.
Let me tell you what just got reported, because you will not believe it until you see it laid out.
The Trump administration cut a billion-dollar tungsten deal with Kazakhstan. Tungsten is the metal we need for missile warheads, fighter jets, and computer chips. Trump himself got on the phone to close it. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick worked it from the inside, sending letters, leaning on the Kazakh president, lining up as much as $1.6 billion in federal financing.
Within weeks of those negotiations, investors tied to a firm partly owned by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump took a 20% stake in an entity connected to the very same Kazakhstan project their father was negotiating. Around that same time, Cantor Fitzgerald, the firm run by Lutnick’s own sons, raised $210 million for a partner in the deal and pocketed the fees.
The fathers set the policy. The sons cashed in.
Six days after the Trump sons and their partners moved their money, Lutnick signed the final deal.
The reporting found one or both families have financial ties to at least 14 companies working with the government on critical mining deals.
The total federal funding flowing toward those companies tops $8.9 billion.
This is your tax money.
It is supposed to secure our supply chains and protect our troops, not pad the portfolios of the President’s children and the Commerce Secretary’s children.
This is the most corrupt administration in American history. It is not close.
We must keep digging, and keep asking the questions they do not want asked. Republicans in Congress are unwilling to lift a finger. Mike Johnson is running a protection racket.
Either we will end the corruption, or the corruption will be the end of us.

Kagan's dissent is the legal document that will be read when historians examine what this Court did in this moment. She found that the majority's conclusion required setting aside comments that were "so repellent and racially inflected" that the Court itself would not reproduce them in its opinion - and then ruling anyway that those comments were insufficient evidence of racial animus.
The legal standard the majority applied: courts cannot question the process immigration authorities use to revoke TPS, regardless of the statements accompanying that process. The practical consequence: 350,000 people who have lived here legally, worked, built families, enrolled children in schools - exposed to deportation to a country where four women returned in February were found beheaded. Viles Dorsainvil, who runs a support center for Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, said families are going to work, kids are going to school, and the Court just put all of it on stop. The Senate has a bipartisan House-passed bill sitting in front of it. They could act today.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for prompt, independent investigations into deaths in US immigration custody, and said that families have rights to truth, justice, reparations, and guarantees that abuses will not recur.
The death rate among detainees has more than doubled since Trump returned to office.
It's not everyday that the United Nations demands investigations into the USA for our treatment of immigrants. You'd think our mainstream media would be giving this the attention it deserves, but of course the domestic cable news coverage on this is very quiet.
THE POLITICAL ESTABLISHMENT IS GETTING NERVOUS
The political establishment — Democratic and Republican — is getting nervous. So are the Oligarchs and the corporate media they own.
The world they dominate is beginning to shake beneath them. Change is coming. And they don’t like it.
What we saw on Tuesday in New York, what we are seeing all across the country, is that ordinary people are getting involved in the political process, are taking on establishment candidates, and are winning. What is particularly frightening to the establishment is that many of the candidates, and their supporters, are young. The future belongs to them and they want that future to look very different from what it is today.
It’s not complicated. Progressives and democratic socialists are winning elections because the vast majority of the American people understand that status quo politics and policies are not working. You don’t have to be a PhD in economics to know that in America today the very rich are getting much richer while the vast majority of our people are struggling to pay for the basic necessities — healthcare, housing, food, education and utilities. You don’t have to be a sociologist to realize that the younger generation will likely have a lower standard of living than their parents. You don’t need to be a political scientist to understand that we have a corrupt campaign finance system that allows billionaires and their super PACS to buy elections, undermine democracy, and protect their privileged positions.
The American people, across the political spectrum, are rejecting the establishment’s uber-capitalist ideology, value system and priorities. They want an economy and a government that works for all, not just wealthy campaign contributors.
More and more Americans refuse to accept the current reality that:
One man, Mr. Musk, owns more than three times as much wealth as the bottom half of our society. That billionaires and large profitable corporations often pay an effective tax rate lower than truck drivers or nurses. They are demanding that the billionaire class starts paying their fair share of taxes.
We are the only major country not to guarantee health care to all as a human right. They want Medicare for All.
Tens of millions of workers are earning starvation wages. They want to raise the minimum wage to a living wage and make it easier for workers to join unions.
Big Tech and the wealthiest people on earth are aggressively pushing AI and robotics, the most transformative technologies in history, without public input. They want these technologies to benefit all, not just the handful of billionaires who own the industry.
Nearly 800,000 Americans are homeless, and more than 20 million households are spending 50% or more of their limited incomes on housing. They want a freeze on rent and the construction of millions of units of low income and affordable housing.
Elias's comparison is the one worth sitting with. When Bill Clinton briefly boarded Loretta Lynch's plane on a Phoenix tarmac in 2016 and they talked about grandchildren and golf - no documented request, no documented outcome, a conversation - the media treated it as a scandal that required weeks of coverage. Trump stood at a podium in Pennsylvania, described personally calling a federal prosecutor to investigate an election while his preferred candidate was losing, and the Pennsylvania federal prosecutor was sitting in the audience being publicly thanked. Elias: none of the reporters present found this worthy of a question.
The normalization that allows that to happen is not benign. When the president describes using the federal prosecution apparatus to intervene in a state election and it registers as a moment of rally color rather than a constitutional question, the mechanism that would otherwise produce accountability has been eroded. That erosion is itself the story underneath the story.
Ossoff: "Citizens United was the most destructive court decision in modern American history. It's unleashed a flood of secret money, corporate money, billionaire money on both sides. Donald Trump's rise is a symptom of this deeper disease. Our task is not just to contain his wickedness, but to cure the rot that gave rise to it."
Sometimes you have to back up a little bit and think about what things really mean: The top priority of the Trump-led Republican Party is to keep Democrats from voting. That’s their most important policy position right now.
