At over 106 years of age, Havildar Mering Ao, Shaurya Chakra, slowly rose from his chair and delivered a salute.

Time may have bent his body, but it could not diminish the spirit of the soldier who fought in the jungles of Burma during World War II and witnessed the historic Battle of Kohima.

As Riflewomen of the Assam Rifles stood behind him, the moment became more than a salute—it became a bridge between generations. Behind him stood the future of the force. Before them stood its living history.

For a few unforgettable seconds, a century of courage, sacrifice, and service stood tall in one man.
