On Saturday, August 19th, we will have our second community Open House with a cookout at Annie's House. We will have healthy, delicious food for everyone along with drinks and the classic summer favorite: fruit popsicles. We would love to see you there!

The heat is on! Don't let the high temperatures get the best of you. Over 40 million people in the US have been placed under heat warnings from extreme global warming, raising fears for people vulnerable to the heat and placing our energy grid under strain from surging AC use.
We recently harvested some vegetables for the first time from our New Washington Heights garden! This garden is brand new and showing some great signs of healthy produce!

July is National Parks and Recreation Month! This years theme is "Where Community Grows". Sustaining Way believes in the importance of finding community in the outdoors. We can use our community to to create sustainable, caring and equitable communities and care for the Earth!
Sustaining Way hosted a Juneteenth cookout at Annie's House on Saturday, for a community meal!

We recently installed a Backyard Garden for Mr. Jimmy Aiken! Mr. Jimmy stated that he "really appreciated SW installing the garden for him... Now that it is planted, I will be able to take car of them and am excited about having fresh tomatoes later this summer."

The first member we recognize is Laura Shoun. She is lead gardener of Nicholtown Community Garden and was great to work with at a garden panel at St. Matthew UMC. She also hosted Michelin volunteers at H.O.G. Day
Last week, we partnered with Upstate Forever, the Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities, and others to hold a first-of-its-kind EV Equity Roundtable. It brought together leaders in the EV space to explore how we can more equitably distribute benefits of EVs in our community!
No one should be denied basic needs like food. Yet for decades, Congress has banned people with felony drug convictions from accessing #SNAP or food stamps. The RESTORE Act is a new bill that would finally end this cruel ban. Tell Congress to support it today! #PassRestoreAct
We love our volunteers, come out and join us! We have open volunteer hours as well as the ability to schedule group visits. The weather will be wonderful this summer, so spend some time outside in the sunshine helping out in our garden. We hope to see you at Annieβs House!
Sophi, our Sustainable Agriculture VISTA, and a team of volunteers tested water stream quality for chemicals and bacteria for our Adopt-a-Stream section of waterway. This is very important to do to ensure that the water we use for drinking and recreation is clean and safe to use.
Attention all volunteers! Our Friday garden volunteer work day hours have been updated for summer. Here are the times you can come out to work in the garden:
~ Tuesdays: 3 - 5 p.m.
~ Wednesdays: 4 - 5:30 p.m.
~ Fridays: 8 - 10 a.m.
~ 3rd Saturday of the month: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
