Exactly 18 years ago, a Test match was stopped for 5 minutes to celebrate a milestone of a sportsman. There will never be anyone who can match the craze of Sachin Tendulkar.
SEBI has reportedly directed mutual fund AMCs to temporarily halt fresh lump-sum investments, switch-ins and new SIP registrations in Gold Funds of Funds, including gold-silver FoFs, effective 16 October.
Is this a precursor to more curbs in the Gold market ?
If this happens, ETF pricing may go pricier (vs NAV)
and physical market will also be impacted with shorter supply.
Very sensible piece by R Venkataraman.
Worth reading!
3 key takeaways:
1. Stop worrying about daily FII selling.
2. Focus on asset allocation, not yesterday’s multibaggers.
3. Crude above $100 and US bond yields above 5% remain key risks.
Bulls will return, YES !
The latest round of global AI selling is again led by Korea thanks to China.
In the first round of selling China came out with cheaper open source and open weight models and this time a Chinese company called CXMT has announced progress on a new 4F DRAM memory-cell architecture and announced plans to introduce DDR5 server memory using the technology by the end of 2026
For those unfamiliar, this technology is designed to pack more memory cells into the same amount of space, potentially improving chip density and manufacturing efficiency.
It has already become the 4th largest manufacture globally after SK Hynix, Samsung and micron and it’s said when China enters a market, there are no profits left for others to make.
Be careful with all your global allocation and I have been saying it for sometime as everything globally is only up largely because of AI, the cycle turns and all markets will rhyme together.
Inflation around 6% means your ₹1 lakh will buy only half the things in about 12 years, so keeping money in the bank & feeling relaxed is actually a mistake.
What are you doing to beat inflation ? FD, MF SIP, Direct Stocks, Gold, Property or something else?

Small caps are beating the Nifty right now, so enjoy the ride but watch the price you are paying!
In the 2008 crash the Nifty 50 fell 59% but the Nifty Smallcap 250 fell 73%, & small caps took more than 6 years just to get back to their old high, while everyone was saying small companies will shut down & no bank will lend them a rupee.
2018 had no big crash, just a slow fall where the small cap index lost around 40% from top to bottom while the Nifty lost only 14% in the year, & many stocks were cut by 50% to 75%, so people who bought in 2017 waited almost 3 years to get their money back.
In 2020 the Nifty fell 38% & small caps fell 43%, & this happens a lot because in the last 20 years small caps have fallen more than 20% in 12 different years, so a big fall comes almost every second year.
But the people who stayed made big money. From March 2020 to September 2024 the Nifty Smallcap 250 went up around 500% while the Nifty 50 went up just over 200%, with 2023 giving 48.1% & 2024 giving 26.4%, before 2025 fell 6%, the worst year for small caps in seven years.
When an investor enters the market also matters a lot here. Money put in just before the 2008 crash made only about 8% a year till March 2026, money put in during January 2020 made about 19% a year, & money put in at the COVID bottom made about 31% a year, all from the same index.
Since 2005, holding small caps for one year has given a median return of 10.25%, but the best year gave 175% & the worst gave minus 69%.
✔️ Where are we right now
The Nifty is the one falling, at around 22,500 today roughly 14% below its January 2026 high of 26,300+ with a PE of around 19 which is cheaper than normal.
Small caps are holding near their highs, Smallcap 250 at around 17,800, only about 4% below its 52 week high of 18,551, & the PE is in the mid 30s, well above its own 5 year average of about 28 & almost double the Nifty.
✔️ So, what to expect
• another fall of 30% or more at some point, since a 20%+ cut has come almost every 2 years
• some stocks falling by half even when the index looks fine
• 2 to 3 years of flat returns like 2018 to 2020
• then one big year that makes up for the wait, but nobody knows which year
A 50% fall needs a 100% rise just to break even, so how much money you put in small caps matters more than which stock you pick. Over 10 year periods small caps have given anywhere from 3% to 21% a year, around 12% on average, so holding long works, but buying at very high prices can still give you a weak 10 years, just ask anyone who bought in 2007.
Small caps pay investors who stay patient through the volatility & those who sell in panic usually end up making someone else rich.
(Past returns are not a promise of future returns, & this is not investment advice)
1 year Nifty returns are negative 25% of the time.
10 year Nifty returns are negative 0% of the time.
Imagine buying a house or land for ₹50 lakh & checking its market rate every single weekend, expecting it to jump up every few days/weeks.
We easily give real estate 10 years without complaining, but panic if a mutual fund portfolio drops for 6 months.
The right 'Mindset' is key to making solid money in equities.

Indian Equity Markets #Correction Check :
Nifty 50 drawdowns of over 10% happen almost every 18–24 months
Drawdowns of over 20% occur roughly once every 5–6 yrs
Top 5% of trading days drive over ~70% of long-term compounding returns.
Selling in panic during temporary bloodbaths usually means missing the fastest recovery rallies.
Sometimes, I get surprised with the data like-
1- South Korean market has gone up by 72% in this calendar year despite FPIs sold stocks worth $126 billion.
2- Taiwan market has gone up by 64% despite FPIs sold stocks worth $37 billion.
3- Whereas Indian market, FPIs sold shares worth $27 billion but market has also gone down by 18%.
South Korean market is up by 72% despite FPIs huge selling, had anyone told you in the beginning of the year that FPIs would sell heavily, you would have not imagined that market would go by 72%.
Sometime, data surprises big time.
