January 29, 2025.
President Trump's first signed law:
The Laken Riley Act.
Public Law 119-1.
Federal detention now required for certain non-citizens arrested or charged with burglary, theft, larceny, shoplifting, assault on law enforcement, or crimes causing death or serious bodily injury.
States can sue the federal government when enforcement failures cost them more than $100.
From Japan I watched the previous administration release and parole people who should never have walked your neighborhoods.
This law does not bring Laken back.
But it says her name out loud in the statute books.
That matters.
How many names did your old policy bury without a law?
