Sutherland Shire Council will be conducting a small hazard reduction burn at Barden Ridge today. The 1ha activity will commence at 9am in the Australia Road Reserve. The burn is part of a pilot program which will see Council reintroduce fire into smaller reserves in suburbia.

Today we have been celebrating NAIDOC week at an event held at Gunnamatta Park, Cronulla.

A wonderful ceremony was held to recognise the contribution of Indigenous people across the local community and more broadly.

Night shift crews from both NPWS and RFS are patrolling the East Heathcote hazard reduction this evening. Tomorrow work will continue with additional activities at Loftus & Menai.
A wonderful effort by all crews, in particular our volunteers who have given up their weekend.

National Parks assisted by the RFS & FRNSW will be undertaking a 160ha hazard reduction burn around East Heathcote tomorrow (Sun 28/4). The forecast indicates that smoke will be blown over Heathcote/Engadine from early afternoon onwards. A number of helicopters will be assisting.

Temperatures on Sunday (18/3) will reach nearly 40c across the shire. A vigorous frontal system will move through NSW bringing strong westerly winds and low humidity. The perfect combination for a bush fire. The fire danger rating will be Severe with a Total Fire Ban in force.

Early this morning, 18 of our firefighters successfully completed the arduous pack test. The test involves walking 5km under 45 minutes, while wearing a 20kg weight vest. Well done to crews!
