We had a great time at our institute's New Year's Get-Together yesterday! Several rounds of Eisstockschießen (ice stock sport) were followed by dinner, a pub quiz, and lots of table tennis!
🆕Our colleagues show systemic antibiotics for #periodontitis shift the oral #microbiome, affecting outcomes. A healthy microbiome is key: without it, benefits are limited, and similar results may occur without antibiotics if balance is restored.

Three of our team members serve as working group speakers at @DGEpi_eV, @gmdsEV, and @DGSMP_e_V. They are very excited to head to the joint conference #gesundheitgemeinsam2024 at @DHMDresden in @stadt_dresden next week to chair several sessions. Say hi if you see them!
Let the conference marathon 🏃♀️ begin!
In the coming weeks, we will be attending conferences around the 🌍, presenting & discussing research (see 📷 for some of them). Watch the presentations or stop by our posters!
Stay tuned for updates!

Congratulations to Jasmin for successfully defending her doctoral thesis on the effect of risk status for severe COVID-19 on individual contact behaviour during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in Germany using data from the COVIMOD study. We are excited to see what your future holds 🥳
Looking forward to our time in Malawi, the warm heart of Africa, and are very excited for 2 weeks of mathematical modelling teaching and knowledge exchange as part of the @DAAD_Germany funded #NOZGEKA project with @mzunionline@ULivingstonia. Stay tuned to follow our adventure!
📣After almost 4 years, our colleague and friend Dr. @GustavoHdezM is leaving our institute. He was an esteemed co-worker who focused on modelling infectious diseases in hospital settings.
We wish him all the best for his new position @Helmholtz_HZI#Farewell Gustavo 👋
Today, the #1 Dr.rer.medic #Symposium of the medical sciences study @Uni_Muenster took place. The doctoral candidates presented their research topics and engaged in discussions.
Here are some impressions👇
This study by Laura Buschmann et al. @ClinicalEpi shows that amongst other factors, confounding is an essential component when comparing the survival of #mammography screening programme participants and non-participants #breastcancer#bias

It amazes me that "Statistical analysis" are single subsection of "Methods" appendices in #microbiome papers. Y'all have separate sections for "Sample storage" (with careful justification), "DNA extraction" (w/ careful justification), "qPCR" (w/ careful justification)... 1/6
