At the end of this month, it will be 17 years as a bus driver for Trimet Here are 10 things I learned along the way in no Particular Order. @Trimet#Portland#Transit
1 You think you are a good driver when you start but you really have no idea. Once through training, then you start to see the light.
2 Everyone is someone’s loved one. This can be hard to keep in your heart but if you do, you will deal with people better and better.
3 Don’t let fear control you. From wildfires to assaults, from shootings to road rage. Floods, riots, accidents, and ice. It’s easy to let fear freeze you into inaction. You have to have a bias for action. Make your safest call and act on it fast.
4 Build your reputation with your work. Be there, show up, and when in doubt move people. Sure you may be wrong sometimes but if you are moving people you can weather that storm.
5 Don’t take it personally, What’s the saying “Words are wind” There is no word spoken, no insult or slur that can move me one inch. No one has control over me.
6 Other people are not like you, don’t expect them to be. Don’t use yourself as a yardstick to measure others by.
7 Laughter can be an attack. I have a habit of laughing and I laugh to relieve stress or in stressful situations. (Rule 6) I was once assaulted because everyone on the bus laughed at someone. I see that situation differently now
8 Smile, and engage with no expectation of response. I do what I do because that’s who I am not what I expect others to do. Blow by me, don’t look, fine. SWSWSWMO is a great rule of thumb. Some Will, Some won’t, So what! Move ON!
9 No Shame To My Game, I’m proud to be a bus driver, I’m proud of my fellow bus and transit rail operators I work with and around the world. I’m proud of the teams of people behind the scenes that make transit work, I’m proud of our Union that does its best, I put on my uniform and smile every workday.
10 See the human in others. There are universal truths of human interaction. Kindness is universal. It affects everyone on the bus when you see the human in others. Have the courage to be kind, even if it costs you a little. Be that light that others see.
In 2021 actor Damien Smith had a home break-in, where he had detained the intruder before calling police. When police arrived, they proceeded to tase Damien and threw him in the back of a police car until they realized their mistake.
"I’m still in shock and awe of how this transpired," Smith said. "I'm in such fear of calling the police. … Look what happened to me."
And what about the $20 "fees" on top of the ticket prices? Honestly I'd almost feel better if the price of the ticket was more... the fees just enrage me.
President Biden will announce that entertainment giant Live Nation and Ticketmaster have pledged to give US consumers the ability to see the full price of tickets up front https://t.co/aBUTgMNvYa
@OKWildlifeDept I need options.
You never know when you’ll be tromping through the brush in the morning, digging for clams at noon, and running an ultra marathon later in the day.
I have posted this before but ..
26 years ago, a gunman entered
Dunblane Primary School in Scotland,
killing 16 kids and a teacher. The UK
govt responded by enacting tight gun
control legislation. In the 9400+ days
since, there have been a total of O
school shootings in the UK.
JDs Shoe Repair is a local business in North Portland on N. Greeley. Last night their 19 year old son was shot & killed. They’re remaining open despite this enormous tragedy. Plz patronize their business; bring in a pair of shoes that need fixing or buy shoe cleaning supplies 🙏🏽
