How #Samsung's deal with its workers in the semiconductor division will change how corporates and governments manage #AI disruptions.
It is creating (and will create even more) disparities between AI and non-AI #jobs/workers/#skills. And that will be a pain for everyone.
It was whether #China could steadily close the gap while becoming less exposed to external disruption. On both counts, the direction of travel is now difficult to ignore.

#Sanctions were supposed to freeze #China's tech ambitions.
In 2019, #US blacklisted #Huawei—cutting access to #TSMC , #Nvidia, and #ASML in one move. Huawei responded by building R&D centres, restructuring supply chains, and deciding to engineer its own path forward. 🧵 (1/5)
#Huawei went from losing access to Nvidia GPUs to shipping its own #AI chip alternatives within a few years.
Each restriction lengthened the list of things it has decided to build on its own. The question was never whether China could surpass #TSMC or #Nvidia.

As per #SWIFT data, #yuan now ranks 6th in global payments (down from 5th and at some point it was 4th too). But #China's own data says it ranks 3rd. China has been using CIPS - its own version of SWIFT for some time now. Its updated rules are making inroads in Asia and Africa.
In May, 8 out of 11 sectors in the $SPX500 fell. Information technology rose about 16% in May, and the SOXX semiconductor index climbed 24%, while most sectors outside AI leaned lower. The index is green. Most of the market is not. - Benzinga

There’s a new address for the intellectual stuff around #economics.
I now have a #newsletter with @NDTVProfitIndia called The Week in Whys.
Every Saturday, it brings together all the The Reason Why columns from the week with broader themes, & thoughts behind the stories. (1/3)
I write about inflation, #markets, policy, tech, #jobs, consumer behaviour, & the hidden economic forces shaping everyday life.
The idea is simple: make #economics easier to understand & interesting.

Are you worried about AI taking your jobs? Well, before mass layoffs and employment doomsday (if it happens at all), there's going to be a quiet reduction in specialised jobs.
We need to be 'generalists' now.

I have created a framework to help you see which jobs might be at risk of an AI takeover.
If your work is repetitive, measurable, and screen-based, it's at risk.
You need to move laterally into other functions with slightly more knowledge of that domain too.
