With November 27 now established as the #InternationalDayAgainstChildMarriage, the world has sent a clear message to the millions of girls and women who were married as children: you are seen, your rights matter, and this crime must end.

This milestone grew from a call led by our Founder, @Bhuwan_Ribhu , and carried forward by a powerful movement of partners, governments, institutions, communities, and allies in India and across the world. We are grateful to every person who stood with this movement and helped take India’s resolve to end child marriage to the global stage.

The world has spoken: child marriage has no place in our future.

Our mission remains unchanged: a #ChildMarriageFreeWorld by 2030.

With the United Nations establishing #27November as the #InternationalDayAgainstChildMarriage, I stand here carrying the courage and resolve of every partner of #JustRightsForChildren and our partners across the 99 countries of the #ChildMarriageFreeWorld movement.

They stood between children and impending child marriages, took the rule of law to the last mile, and helped mobilise 250 million people in a single day to pledge against this crime.

This Day did not begin in the halls of the United Nations. It began wherever someone chose to protect a child and make the #ruleoflaw work for them.

I thank every one of them. I stand here on behalf of each one of them. This historic Day belongs to all of them.

With JRC partners having stopped and prevented 550,000+ child marriages across India, India has shown the world what collective action can achieve.

With the @UN General Assembly adopting the resolution by consensus and establishing November 27 as the #InternationalDayAgainstChildMarriage, our Founder, @Bhuwan_Ribhu, expressed his first gratitude to the children and survivors whose courage gave this movement its purpose.

As the United Nations passes landmark resolution to establish #27November as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage, this moment brings together the persistence of civil society and the decisive political leadership needed to turn a global demand into action.

I remain deeply grateful to H.E. Dr Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, for carrying this call forward with conviction and urgency.

Today, we walk together into the world, into these United Nations, carrying with us the hopes of children everywhere and the responsibility for our shared future.

If the world is truly one family, then no child can be someone else’s responsibility. Every child is ours to protect. That is the meaning of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

Thank you to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for ensuring the enforcement and nationwide roll-out of the Judicial Sensitivity Guidelines across the justice system, from the police station to the courtroom.

This builds directly on our 2025 intervention before the Hon’ble Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court judgment in a child sexual abuse case, where we sought not only justice for one child, but systemic safeguards against insensitive and victim-blaming approaches across the justice system.

I once again congratulate Senior Advocate H.S. Phoolka ji, General Counsel Rachna Tyagi, the entire #JustRightsforChildren legal team and our partners for this landmark achievement. Nearly a year ago, more than 270 partner NGOs of @JustRightsIndia came together before the #SupremeCourt to challenge a deeply disturbing judgment of the #Allahabad High Court that held that grabbing a child’s breasts and breaking her pyjama string did not amount to attempt to rape. Today, the Supreme Court of India has not only set aside that controversial judgment, but the ruling itself has restored faith in the judiciary to place justice above all else.

Inconsistent interpretations of the law, personal opinion and bias, and at times a lack of responsibility and accountability within the judicial process have often resulted in victim shaming and blaming, and in many cases have forced victims to abandon the pursuit of justice. This judgment marks a critical correction for future generations.

I salute the courage of the mother, the family, and the child, who continue to fight for justice despite relentless odds. They were shunted out of police stations, no FIR was registered, and they had to take loans just to approach the courts. And yet, today, they saw the first beam of justice—with the Supreme Court staying the Allahabad High Court’s judgment. Together, we shall continue this fight. @JustRightsIndia
