Happening now! @CSEINDIA with support from @tatatrusts, is convening a national workshop, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss sustainable and circular approaches to water and wastewater in India’s rural areas.
The workshop will focus on sharing success stories on best management practices, especially in rural areas that are transitioning into urban. See the inaugural panel below 👇
Just Released: Sustainability of Drinking Water Sources in the Districts of Pali (Rajasthan) and Banda (UP)
India’s rural drinking water sector has made substantial progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), particularly in expanding household tap connectivity.
With support from @TataTrusts, the Centre for Science and Environment conducted a survey across nearly 30 villages and 589 households in Pali, Rajasthan and Banda, Uttar Pradesh; two districts with very different ecological contexts.
The study examines proposed Multi-Village Supply Schemes under JJM, where water is being sourced from nearby rivers, and highlights why a conjunctive approach using both surface and groundwater is critical for sustainable rural water supply.

Once a garbage dumpsite, Moorthi Nainar kulam is now a paradise for bird watchers.
Political will and community participation have been central to the success of Tirunelveli’s district-level programme, Nellai Neervalam. Today, the restored lake has become a thriving public space where residents gather on weekends to spot and identify bird species.
@EFIVolunteer, a not-for-profit, took up the responsibility of rejuvenating the lake in coordination with the district administration.
In 2024, a CSE team visited over 250 lakes and ponds under 26 schemes in four ecological regions—the Desert, Indo-Gangetic Plains, Deccan Trap and Coastal Plains— across the country to understand what works when it comes to waterbody rejuvenation.
Back from the Brink is a a compendium of 45 case studies that document successful efforts across Central and state government programmes
@amazonIN@amazon has started a stupid thing. No access to customer support. If a product needs to b replaced they donot have the option but return it. Then they send mail that your returns are more and the account can be blocked
@IndiGo6E@DGCAIndia@AAI_Official@CSMIA_Official seat for Nairobi passengers was cancelled in 6E6082 and no information was given. We were not allowed to board. Due to short layover we actually ran for the flight. The distance of atleast 3-4km. Indigo employees are utterly rude
@AAI_Official@CSMIA_Official@DGCAIndia@IndiGo6E Your employee Ms. Preeti doesn't want to listen a word and just intimidate people. Playing emotional on global war. I understand your ground employees are on national water and air fighting and couldnt spare an employee to inform people to save harassment of repeat procedures
@AAI_Official@CSMIA_Official@DGCAIndia@IndiGo6E especially Miss Preeti-extremely rude and threatening to cancel flight. We were made to walk back for re security check. Making old people walk for 6-7km and even passengers from Nairobi were traveling since 3am EAT.
@AAI_Official@CSMIA_Official@DGCAIndia@IndiGo6E Indigo is more of a bully providing services worse than 10rs DTC bus with no proper food and flights for long journeys. They continue to serve cold food and rudeness. This is highly condemned. I understand the bullying & monopoly shall continue & shall be paid no heed.#Indigo
@AAI_Official@CSMIA_Official@DGCAIndia@IndiGo6E Indigo remains least bothered and rude. Other staff was equally intimidating and telling us to stay where we are if we refuse to comply to forceful cancelations and no prior information. Some people are even further delayed due to lack of seat.
CSE wrapped up a two day workshop cum training in Uganda to promote water - wastewater circularity in institution successfully. CSE's partner @min_waterUg_ is currently working on an annual plan to be launched in June. MWE is planning for groundwater recharge structures and greywater recycle projects in the next year plan for institutions in different districts.
Here are some highlights that were discussed in the workshop:
- Understanding water management and extreme weather events
- WASH practices in the institutions across Uganda
- Policy, legal and regulatory framework for rain water harvesting and waste water management in the built environment of Uganda
- Planning and designing of rainwater harvesting/ groundwater recharge at institutional levels
- Strategy, planning and implementation of wastewater management at institutional levels
- Success stories: Case studies from India on water positive institutions
@flyethiopian@AAI_Official@DelhiAirportGMR@DelhiAirportGMR traveling frm Uganda..ET airlines has broken a small lock & the bag is damaged and refuses to file a complain stating it minor damage. Who decides how much is minor & major? Mr. AFTAB at IGI T3 GMR DESK is not helping.
@MyntraSupport Not of any help.. Just fraudulent operations. When you cancel an order.. which policy self developed deducts platform fee.. this only says..no matter what i am not accountable and I am never at fault
@MyntraSupport@myntra shopping has become a headache. Faceless due to lack of ownership n info on delivery, wrong used products being delivered, clueless customer care repeating one sided policies. I am irritated I even cared to look back at myntra after deleting app once

The Water Programme at the @CSEINDIA yesterday organised a state-level workshop in Jaipur on strengthening the rural water sources across Rajasthan. The meeting was organised in collaboration with @WatershedRaj, @NITJaipur and @tatatrusts. More than 100 participants from government departments, academic institutions, non-profits and research organisations joined the discussion.
The workshop was inaugurated by @Suchak2001, Director, Water Programme, CSE. @lakewarriors, Senior Programme Manager, CSE set the context by linking climate change, water (mis) management and water security.
Sushila Yadav, Additional Director (GIS & Planning, Facilitation, and Coordination) talked about the successful initiatives in Rajasthan on watershed development and restoration. She emphasised the role of monitoring, inter-departmental convergence and the need to harness increased rainfall due to climate change for the benefit of communities through better preparedness.
Devashree Purohit (Tata Trusts) spoke about strengthening the partnership with CSE to address source sustainability and greywater management, leveraging CSE’s expertise while working closely with communities to build sustainable models.
The workshop also brought together key experts and discussants, including Ashok Kumar (@RajasthanPhed), Dr. Mahender Choudhary (MNIT), @ruchiniz (@UNICEF, Rajasthan), Dr. Shailendra Singh (@CGWB_CHQ), @Pradee_K_Mishra , @Swati13488, and @Vivek_s011 (CSE).

An Orientation Workshop on Water Sustainability in Rajasthan, organized with the support of Centre for Science and Environment and MNIT Jaipur, brought together experts and participants to discuss critical aspects of water management in rural areas.
The workshop focused on learning from past water security interventions, understanding the current condition of ponds and traditional water bodies, and exploring ways to rejuvenate local water sources for long-term sustainability. Innovative approaches for making groundwater sustainable in desert districts, the use of GIS and satellite tools to identify potential recharge zones, and effective greywater management strategies to protect freshwater resources were also deliberated.
The discussions highlighted practical solutions and actionable strategies for ensuring a resilient and sustainable water future in Rajasthan.

How can AI and Remote Sensing secure India’s water future? Traditional groundwater management is no longer enough. To ensure long-term resilience, we need to utilise advanced spatial tools to understand the movement and recharge of our aquifers.
CSE is hosting a specialised training programme: Using AI, GIS, and Remote Sensing for Mapping Potential Groundwater Recharge Zones.
This is a hands-on opportunity to learn:
- Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT)
- Urbanisation and its impact on aquifers
- AI models for sustainable groundwater management
- Field visit for collection and interpretation of data for hydrogeological modelling, and more!
