Reports of amphibious landings in Odessa are interesting. Odessa produces 67% of the purified neon gas in the world. It's used in lasers to make semiconductors. If we cut off Russia's chips, they cut off the gas that makes the chips. Putin to Biden: "Your move, pal." @Sarge986
@BrandiKHOU Voluntary reduction is not working, so they are forcing variable rate users to reduce usage or pay the price. It might help more people get their power back on if consumption is reduced enough. Mostly affects industrial users and unfortunately households with variable rate plans.
@Brendajurgens3 @eptresist @SylvesterTurner I donβt think we can blame a single person. For example, the Southwest power pool which services 17 states had similar outages today. https://t.co/Db43P8gHkP
@Soycowgirl@SylvesterTurner They are building new plants, however not all electricity generation is equal. Some technologies do better in the extreme weather than others (e.g. wind/solar don't work well in the cold/if it's cloudy. Natural gas pollutes and it's hard for them to get permits. It's political.
@CloudFuel @DepotTint @maselena@SylvesterTurner@wholemars Furthermore, population growth has exceeded the ability to keep up with infrastructure. This can be seen in high growth areas like Austin, DFW, and Houston.
@CloudFuel @DepotTint @maselena@SylvesterTurner@wholemars How much has the population of Texas grown in the last 30 years? About 12 million people. We haven't had this level of demand before. The earthquake comparison is only to demonstrate that you don't design for unlikely events if the costs to protect against that event is too high.
@DepotTint @maselena@SylvesterTurner@wholemars CPE said they were forced it to cut its transmission load by so much that it can no longer rotate outages. Translation: "Hospitals and critical infrastructure are getting all the power we have available to give"
