Today we enjoy the warmth of the Holocene Interglacial. The prior interglacial lasted around 13,000 years. The Holocene began around 11,700 years ago. Another ice age is approaching. Let us assume for the sake of argument that burning fossil fuels is increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and that this causes temperatures on earth to rise. Sound policy favors continued burning of fossil fuels to postpone the onset of next ice age.
