🏊♂️ Swim Instructor Tip #012: Want swimmers to learn more? Say less!
Keep instructions brief, use simple learning cues, and teach through activity. Give a quick direction, let them swim, then offer brief feedback.

🏊♂️ Swim Instructor Tip #011: Get Their Attention!
1️⃣ Stop and wait.
2️⃣ Briefly explain why.
3️⃣ Set expectations for everyone.
4️⃣ Resume class—and be firm if it happens again.
The goal is a learning environment—not control.

Swim Instructor Tip #010: How to Stop Overpulling in Breaststroke 🏊♂️
Overpulling is one of the most common breaststroke mistakes. Watch how I help Kashton correct it—and why I focus on the “big thing” instead of correcting every error at once.
Learning to swim is a process—not an event.

@MakisMedicine I have 3 tumors/lesions in my prostate as well. I'm taking the attached but guessing in how much. I also don't know where to get the others you mentioned.
John Harbaugh’s 90-10 Rule:
If a player does 90% well, acknowledge it 90% of the time.
Harp on the 10% constantly, and he will start believing you think he is only 10% good.
Even Ray Lewis wanted correction. He also needed the full context.

Swim Instructor Tip #009: Don't let goggles steal your lesson time.
If you're constantly stopping to fix goggles, you're losing valuable teaching time.
I've found the @finisinc Dragonfly goggles make a noticeable difference for my youngest swimmers:
✅ Stay in place better
✅ Fewer leaks
✅ Gentler on children's hair
More swimming. Less adjusting.
What goggles have worked best in your lessons?

👀 Are You Teaching Your Toddler Students to Open Their Eyes Underwater?
Many babies naturally open their eyes underwater, but toddlers often become hesitant. Once they're comfortable submerging and trust you, gently encourage them to open their eyes just a tiny bit.
One of my favorite cues:
💙 "See if you can find Mommy (or Daddy) underwater!"
Make it a fun mission—not a test. No pressure. Just encouragement, praise, and patience. ❤️

Are you accidentally discouraging your students without realizing it?
Too much corrective feedback can hurt confidence and make kids dread swim lessons.
Instead, use the Sandwich Feedback Technique:
✅ Positive feedback
🎯 One correction
✅ Positive encouragement
It's a simple coaching habit that builds confidence AND better swimmers.

🌊 Heading to the beach this weekend? Read this first. 🏖️
A rip current can happen at any beach and can affect even strong swimmers.
If you're caught in one:
✅ Stay calm.
✅ Don't swim against it.
✅ Swim parallel to shore to escape, then head back to the beach.
✅ If you can't get free, float or tread water, raise one arm, and call for help.
Before you swim:
✔️ Check beach conditions and warning flags.
✔️ Swim near lifeguards.
✔️ Watch children closely.
✔️ Respect the ocean and know your limits.
Share this—it could save a life.

Most swim programs have testing days.
We don't.
At Swim Lessons University, swimmers advance when they've consistently demonstrated mastery—not because the calendar says it's time.
Today, 5-year-old Annie surprised everyone by graduating into Advanced Swim Strokes 301/302 after consistently demonstrating Freestyle with Side Breathing and Backstroke. 🏅
That's the power of mastery-based instruction.
Confident swimmers aren't created through high-pressure testing. They're built through consistent success.
