If you're self publishing:
Think about how you construct the meta data (keywords etc) because discoverabilty is essential in our digital world (and it's impossible to correct) @AlisonGoodman #SwinWF19

You have to protect yourself - it can be a time suck... Find what you like and engage in a comfortable way @AlisonGoodman #SwinWF19

The biggest social media outlet is Facebook by far. But the correlation between social media and sales is limited. Newsletter lists are the most effective to equate sales.

What advice would you give to people wanting to join the publishing world?
Have a backup.
Many of the secure jobs (journalist etc) aren't around anymore.
Editors are important. You can volunteer as a beta or proof reader and then get paid work from that @LindyCameron1

If you have to pay for a manuscript assessment you should. You can't 100 percent rely on your friends to do things for free - they need to make a living too @LindyCameron1 #SwinWF19

How did you go about finding an audience?
I didn't stress about whether I was making money (luckily I had another job). I donated to childcare centers, took Andre with me and shared the stories -Farnaz #SwinWF19

What is hybrid publishing?
For traditionally published authors to also publish themselves alongside their contracts with big publishers.
Self publishing used to be seen as vanity but now it's recognized as a way for authors to take control of their income @AlisonGoodman #SwinWF19

Luck plays a part in a career but part of luck is putting yourself out there so that the right eyes see it (your work) @AlisonGoodman #SwinWF19

I realised I had all the skills - or if I didn't (such as design skills), I knew people who did - so I started my own publishing company @LindyCameron1 #SwinWF19

What steps do writers have to take to promote their work?:
You do have to sell yourself as a writer.... Use social media, blogs. I try to think of things that will be interesting to readers as topics for blogs... You have to think outside the square @wendyjdunn #SwinWF19
