Last night at a play reading session I saw a young person realise that the stories that they have heard to now aren’t necessarily all of the stories that there are. The excitement as it was realised that their world could be made on their terms was gorgeous. That’s fueled my day.
If you think circus isn't for you, this love letter to it may convert you: "I turned my camera away from the performance and saw a woman’s face, looking up towards the flying figure, high above us. There were tears running down her cheek. Someone had switched the colour back on."

Tonight's show is dedicated to the poet and gorgeous person Miki Byrne. RIP.
@GillMSimmons Yeah, that's the kind of flexible, context-driven model I was thinking of. Wondering about the psychology of 'book early or it might not go ahead' messaging. Could go either way. Will do some research and chat to a few others. Would be great to do some test runs. Watch this space
@GillMSimmons Thanks for this, Gill. It's got me thinking. Going to do some research and see if it's viable for the events & orgs I'm involved with. Might come back to you if that's OK. I'm keen to work in a way that's more sustainable and where the majority risk isn't on artists
@GillMSimmons ... Which artists & arts companies are - businesses. I just don't think they're perceived as such by most people, which may be a factor in how seriously they take tix booking
@GillMSimmons Great idea! I wonder what would happen if anyone tried this?? I think you're right about 'nice to have'. Also many still see working in the arts as not 'work'. It's done for love/passion etc, so people don't feel the need to support artists they way they do other businesses..
@GillMSimmons ... They suggested shifting back your marketing timelime with this in mind, and pushing promotion right up to the day of the show to help mitigate it
