まひろとホシノは、互いに“似てるけど違う”相手を心の支えにしながら巡回を続けていた。
ガタン――。
まひろ「い、今の音…聞こえたよね…？」
ホシノ「き、聞こえてない！聞こえてないってことにしよっ…！」
まひろ「む、無理だよホシノちゃん！絶対なんかいるよぉ…！」
ホシノ「やめてよまひろちゃん！そんなこと言われたら余計に怖いってばぁ！」
二人の声だけが、暗い廊下に情けなく響いていく。
勇気を出して巡回しているはずなのに、
一歩進むたびに、心臓の音だけがどんどん大きくなっていった。
――そして次の瞬間。
ただの風で倒れたモップに、二人そろって絶叫した。
その悲鳴は、校舎中にこだましたという。

The school at night is far too quiet—quiet enough to be terrifying.
Mahiro and Hoshino walk the halls side by side, relying on the presence of
this “looks-kind-of-like-me” partner to keep their nerves together.
Clatter—
Mahiro: “D-Did you hear that…?”
Hoshino: “Nope! Didn’t hear a thing! Let’s just pretend we didn’t!”
Mahiro: “I-I can’t pretend! Something’s definitely out there…!”
Hoshino: “Mahiro, don’t say that! You’re making it worse for both of us!”
Their shaky voices echo pathetically through the dark corridor.
They came here to be brave, but with every step,
the pounding in their chests only grew louder.
—And then, in the very next moment,
a fallen mop—knocked over by nothing but a breeze—sent both of them screaming.
Their synchronized shriek echoed through the entire school.
