Silver has always had to be his own hope. Soft, childish innocence couldn't survive in Crisis City. When Silver was Tails' age, he was already fighting Iblis himself every day.

He intuits how much Silver just wants answers and how Mephiles used that. He recognizes his strengths and weaknesses.

Shadow even knows him well enough to translate what he means when Silver's blunt manner of speaking comes off the wrong way.
