Since Daft Punk officially split on February 22, 2021, fans of the French duo have been waiting for any kind of sign from its members.
The one who gradually became more public, and without the mask, was Thomas Bangalter. He first appeared presenting a classical music project, and later started showing up more frequently at film screenings, theater events, and art installations. Eventually, he returned to the stage at the Centre Pompidou alongside Ed Banger Records, in tribute to the very place where the duo originally fell in love with electronic music. Rumors of a possible comeback began to grow, as seeing one of the members without the iconic robot helmet sparked major excitement among fans.
Then, Thomas delivered a spectacular surprise b2b set with Fred again.. in London, which completely shook the music world.
Amid all this online buzz, fans kept wondering about the other half of the project. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo has remained almost entirely absent from public life, no social media presence, no public appearances, and only surfaced briefly through songwriting and production credits on tracks by Travis Scott and Rosalía.
That changed on April 24, 2026, when Manuel Rodríguez from the Moogchild Synthdrome shop in Madrid shared a photo with Guy-Manuel. In the image, he hides his face behind a vinyl copy of Random Access Memories, which he signed for them. Manuel mentioned that the Daft Punk member was very kind, and that their meeting happened because the French artist purchased a synthesizer for installation in their legendary Paris studio.
This confirms that both members remain deeply involved in music, which reignites hope among fans, especially as the 20th anniversary of Alive approaches next year. Could they return in some form despite formally retiring their Daft Punk personas? Only time will tell.
@daftpunk played the best set of all time 20 years ago today, Alive at Coachella. Due to copyright I can’t post any videos of the set, but I’ve made this extremely accurate drawing of what the set looked like so you can relive it. I hope you enjoy my artistic ability.
