This year’s SMS Olympiad was an absolute blast. THANK YOU Sycamore for coming out and showing your enthusiasm for learning and community. Here are just a few of the highlights to capture such an amazing event:

Are you wondering what your teachers have been up to this summer? Mrs. Kassinger and her kiddos recently checked out the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
Hope your summer has been fun too. Never stop learning!
Mrs. Kassinger’s classes participated in a STEM challenge earlier this week to complete the longest paper chain using only 1 piece of construction paper, 12 inches of masking tape, and 1 pair of scissors. With only 25 minutes to work the longest chain of the day was 951 cm!
Mrs. Zipse’s 7th graders are prepping for next year, practicing a chemistry lab which is a big part of 8th grade science. Looks fun students! Way to finish the year strong! #togetherwespartan#empowering2succeed
7th graders are winding down their school year playing an old school game of Memory…with a twist! They are modeling competitions in ecosystems needing to find their 3 resources before their opponents all while trying to avoid invasive species and predators. #togetherwespartan
HUGE shout out to those involved in Lion King Junior! Such an incredible production from start to finish. If you don’t have tickets for tonight’s show, you better get on that. It’s a must see!

8th graders this week began their final unit of the year… an introduction to physics! The labs you see here allow the students to gather data and analyze the relationship between speed, mass, and kinetic energy. #togetherwespartan#empowering2succeed
These 8th graders are ready to run a preliminary test on their hot houses! These devices are intended to minimize thermal energy transfer of a beaker of water kept inside. After today’s trial run, they compete next week! #togetherwespartan#empowering2succeed
How does hail form? Hames explains.
There’s been a lot of crazy weather lately, including HAIL! In this video from 2020, 8th grade science teacher Mr. Hames explains how hail forms in a thunderstorm. Enjoy!
Weather Post #2 for today…
When you’re a science teacher, you use these storms as a teachable moment! Here are 6th grade teachers Mr. Kohler and Mrs. Kassinger teaching about atmospheric conditions that are contributing to storms like the ones we just experienced.
Weather Post #1 for today…
Check out these hail stones sent to us by Mrs. Gudewicz!!! She now teaches in Sandwich, and after the storm had safely passed, she and her students went out to observe what appears to be near tennis ball sized hail. Wow! @GudewiczJodi
💡Spartans in the STEAM Light💡
Throughout the year we like to highlight some of the awesome things we see students doing in their science and STEAM related courses. Today we recognize 8th grader Harper Lundeen!

That moment when a project performs exactly as you designed it to… Check out Liam’s Air Vortex Cannon that he created as part of his Innovative Thinkers Project. So cool!
