Books help children make sense of the world, provide an escape from it and maybe even inspire them to build a better world, so I hope we act to help this young generation, who have borne so much, connect to the joy of reading - an "invisible privilege" that lasts for a lifetime.
A difficult read, but this section below is what makes me want to redouble my efforts to encourage reading for pleasure. Reading does all this for me. And more.

On 21 September 1937: J.R.R. #Tolkien's The Hobbit was published.
The book tells of a hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, and his journey with thirteen dwarves to recover their treasure from a dragon, Smaug. It's sold over 100 million copies as one of the best-selling books of all time
FOREST OF A THOUSAND EYES, my latest collaboration with the brilliant Emily Gravett, was yesterday released into the wild! In fact, Forest _is_ the wild, and is coming after you with strangling vines, giant eagles, venomous deer and malign intent! Er... in a good way?
