I think my rant could well be the continued relevancy of this here website.

Drumroll pleaseβ¦ the EuroSTAR 2022 Testing Excellence Award goes to @charrett - please join us in celebrating such a wonderful winner ππ» ππ» ππ»
What metrics do you use to measure the productivity and impact of your growing tech team? ("LINES OF CODE" and "STORY POINTS" yell @web_goddess and @darthted from the peanut gallery online.) π
And now for our patented @SydTechLeaders panel with all three leaders! If you've never been to one of our meetups, this is where you get a chance to drill into the topic with our amazing speakers...
If you see someone with empathy, steel, an outcome focus, and hustle, that's what will make an excellent people leader, says @daveoflynn to end his talk! π
The natural state of any organisation is to grind to a stop, says @daveoflynn. As a tech leader, you can't be the only motivating force. You need leaders to bring the urgency too.
Be prepared for people to suck when they first move into management, says @daveoflynn. (@web_goddess, @gilmae, and @darthted all share a sheepish glance in Zoom. π)
Last speaker is @daveoflynn diving deep on the process of moving ICs into management positions. No slides - just sharing personal experience and best practice. How do you know when someone is ready to learn those skills and make that transition?
It takes hubris and backbone to stand in front of the founder of a hypergrowth startup and tell them you're not going to hire any more people because you need to mature the team! @crankymate has been there...
Some good tips from @crankymate on what to focus on with team health. Watch out for "white-ants" and minimise their influence. (And for those not familiar with this Aussie slang: https://t.co/XS1iLrMrTO)
You need to hire people that are flexible and resilient, who are open to change, and ideally who contribute to the diversity of the team. Don't fall into the desperate trap of thinking, "I need people, any people!!" Be intentional, says @crankymate.
Next up is our very own @crankymate talking about growing teams whether in startups like @canva (48 engineers to 278 in 2 years!!) to huge enterprises like @Google. π³ Spoiler: it's hard.
Another peek behind the curtain from @davalopar on the architecture journey of a fast-growing tech company. "Think big, start small, scale fast." Great talk! Thanks Davina. π
