@TPINunion@OPEIU Proud of y’all for organizing this, a group that works for better future for all should be making sure its staff are being cared for with that same vision!
I'm ready to take what I've gained so far and carry my skills and studies into the professional world, and I don't have enough words to thank my #ENVIR492 cohort for getting me this far
If any singular experience from my degree had to be my highlight, it would be the Capstone journey. I don't mean for that to be cheesy, I just cannot emphasize enough how much I have grown at each step of this process
The Capstone Symposium is honestly such an amazing opportunity within this program, and being online is such an accessible format. Coming together as a group of folks who are exciting to do what we can do the environment, there's just nothing else like it
@KCrkonova What was your highlight from the symposium? I think mine was seeing the positive responses from people who saw my presentation, feels good to have people get excited with you!
I would recommend that anyone interested in seeing community capacity raising and sustainability facilitation in action goes to check out their work and events
Sending gratitude towards @sustainseattle for the work they are doing for the Seattle community and for all I got from my internship with them! Looking forward to what's to come :)
I've just now realized that I've been reading two works by Julie Maldonado this quarter, one for my capstone and the other for my Indigenous Ecologies and Climate Change course! I've learned so much about community agency from her writing
"Wiped Out by the “Greenwave”: Environmental Gentrification and the Paradoxical Politics of Urban Sustainability" by Melissa Checker is about the relationship between mainstream environmentalism in cities and how this is a tool of gentrification in practice
Dropping a couple reading recommendations for anyone interested in looking into decolonization research methods or into how environmentalism can push oppressive conditions:
"Addressing the challenges of climate-driven community-led resettlement and site expansion: knowledge sharing, storytelling, healing, and collaborative coalition building" by Julie Maldonado is great for reading up on community-led climate action!
