#SydneyCrossrail - the biggest leap in rail capacity and connectivity in a century. Enables Metro-style service levels across ALL of Sydney's rail network.
Unfortunately I don't yet know how to turn down the brightness of the underlying map. These 2 images show #Crossrail (green) from Glebe Island (adjacent to Sydney's new #HSR station), Airport Tunnel diversion to become #RiverMetro (purple) + EasternCityLoopLine (pink). More later
@Sydney_Stations Induced demand vs latent demand - From what I've seen over the years, induced demand is ill-defined and mostly used politically.
I also am sceptical of the idea of grand planners moulding their underlings. And m/s economists are dull, but real economists are much more fun.
I think of this every time another round of "consultation" is proposed, to the point that I'm actually sceptical about many processes for community input because basically every consultation process is hijacked by a few loud people with that inestimable luxury, time
In response to the recent #M6 announcement - a waste-of-money vanity project to funnel $toll into #westconnex - I spent 45 minutes yest. arvo drawing up a north-south main road connector/distributor for freight and other dispersed vehicle trips in #Sydney. https://t.co/cZppMKT0JF
A proposal to rebuild the Edgecliff centre, with a 160m residential tower joined to Edgecliff Station, has been rejected by NSW Planning & Woollahra Council. It would have been an excellent transit-oriented development, 5min to Martin Pl. Disappointing.

@Alexsg200 I would love to run a campaign to have this “strategically pivoted” in its design and function, or have it canned. I think it’s that much a waste of $resources. The fact there’s no provision for it to stop between Olympic Park and Parramatta one day is difficult to comprehend.
Nowra to Central in 2h 31m. Not bad eh. Using the Coal Coast rail bypass and the Sutherland - Hurstville Tunnels (bridge across Woronora River adjacent to the existing rail bridge, diving into tunnels between Jannali and Como and Oatley and Hurstville. 180.6 km route, 36 stops.
#Syber update Saturday, 5 June 2021. Have reached Nowra (bridge from Bomaderry over the river to Nowra town centre). The Illawarra sub-network of Syber terminates there. I've also extended the CC1 line to Macarthur, and have starting sketching out the new #Wilton#CityCentre.
@jrobens Yeah. It's expensive to cross the Shoalhaven River and given the line hasn't been electrified to Bomaderry, it's snuggly in the basket labelled too hard, too little gain, not a priority. Meh. It's a low priority for me as well tbh. There's bigger fish to fry first.
Thanks to “Acceleration @ForDummies”, I can calculamate my journey time schema. And then use a handy tool online to check it’s all working out. Good news; it is. #Syber
Aaand my updated #Syber network map, current 5 June 2021. I've extended Line XR1 from #Bradfield, part of the #Aerotropolis to #Wilton#CityCentre. I've also started re-vamping my ancient journey time sheets.
#SYBER update, Friday 4 May 2021: Extended the Illawarra Sector as far as Shellharbour. New station at University of Wollongong. Expensive - long term kinda thing. #NIMBYrails
#SYBER Update Monday night, 24 May 2021. Illawarra Coal Coast Rail Bypass complete, as is drawing out the existing squiggly Illawarra Line between Waterfall and Thirroul - meaning I've got my first line extending out beyond the Sydney Basin. Paid far too much attention to detail.
The 'Trunk' or 'Core' of the City Circle subnetwork is Strathfield - City Circle - Wolli Creek. CC Line 2 (CC2) runs Strathfield - Hornsby all stops, and Wolli Creek - Glenfield all stops. CC Line 1 (CC1) runs to St Marys all stops and Limited Stops to Macarthur.
Progress update, Saturday night 15 May 2021: Have reached Glenfield in the southwest which means Line CC2 is complete. CC2 means: 'CC' - City Circle (the core/trunk of the subnetwork); '2' - Line 2. CC2 runs from Hornsby to Glenfield via the City Circle. -->
