This “mockery of selection,” not an election, only proves that Sheikh Hasina’s power stems from the state apparatus, and not from the voters who have long been deprived of their rights and freedoms. As the main opposition, @bdbnp78 sees it as our duty to restore democracy and voting rights in Bangladesh, ensuring every citizen’s voice is heard and their participation in the election process is safeguarded. The history of Bangladesh demonstrates that free, fair, participatory, and peaceful elections are possible only when held under a neutral, non-party election-time government.

Unless and until we achieve the restoration of this system upon the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, and ensure a real election that the nation and the democratic world aspire, our peaceful and nonviolent movement will continue. Towards that goal, our struggle and sacrifice stand as a testament to the pro-democracy people’s commitment to establish a government truly elected by the people, and thereby fostering legitimacy and accountability.

I congratulate the people of Bangladesh for showing a unified passion for democracy today, and securing a victory without even participating in the sham election.

What unfolded was not an election, but rather a disgrace to the democratic aspirations of Bangladesh. The irregularities and violence orchestrated by Awami League, along with disturbing pictures and videos from across the country despite the boycott by 63 pro-democracy parties, prove that a free, fair, participatory, and peaceful election under Sheikh Hasina is just not possible. The resounding rejection of 120 million voters, overcoming the regime's threats and intimidations, as evident in a microscopic voter turnout, serves as a public mandate for our struggle to reinstate democracy and a referendum for Hasina's resignation.
