The President of the United State of America literally said his administration would “permanently pause” migration from all so-called “Third World countries”.

His subordinates and State Department bureaucrats are merely putting his words to action. Nations like Ghana and Uganda are getting a reprieve, because they agreed to some "status of forces agreement" with the US Military and/or have agreed to serve as a dumping ground for failed asylum seekers from the U.S.

Yes, the Nigerian Government is extremely incompetent, but US foreign policy in Africa is evolving in a direction that imposes heavy costs on African nations that deviate from Trump's narrow path. (If you doubt me, ask the South African Government about AGOA negotiations).

We need a grown-up discussion on the costs and benefits of maintaining a normal diplomatic relationship with Trump's America. E.g. is a status of forces agreement, agreeing to serve as a dumping ground for illegal immigrants from around the World, and/or what other one-sided condition Trump imposes on us - an acceptable price to pay to allow Nigerians to visit and study in the US?
