A majority of Americans believe they are chronically dehydrated. This may be due to rules we have learned that have don't really have a scientific basis. Trust your body to tell you when you need water, it knows more than you might realize.
@hankgreen I just get so excited thinking about all the functions cells carryout and how we have barely scratched the surface of understanding what is actually happening (esp. inside the brain). My body performs functions that I spent years trying to learn and grasp.
@hankgreen I have two very vivid memories, both involved me observing the lives of cells within the brain. The first time I was using electrophysiology to send electrical signals into a single neuron and I was able to listen to it "respond" to my input.
@hankgreen Another thing I haven't gotten over is being able to stain astrocytes and see what they look like INSIDE the brain. It is amazing that we figured out how to use antibodies to make cells fluoresce. I'm still awestruck every time my images come out clear.
There is evidence that coronaviruses may be 300 million years old (give or take a few).
SARS-CoV-2 is a mutated form of the virus that infects bats. Since humans have no immunity to this virus it can spread quickly and is sometimes undetected. #COVID19#scicomm#coronavirus
How do brains rewire throughout life?
Our paper out in @Nature today outlines several principles of brain circuit development that we found by mapping the complete wiring of eight brains.

I'm thrilled to announce that I have started a science blog. My goal is to foster a better relationship between the general public and the scientific community.
My first posts will be about lactose intolerance. https://t.co/uTuxIFf6Si
Learning lots about the imaging techniques used on the Perseverance rover. My background with confocal laser scanning microscopy has really intensified my appreciation for this endeavor. So amazing.
