Retired but still curious, living with AL #amyloidosis. βΏοΈ & π§ Deaf. Interested in chemistry, nutrition and diet and food supply, climate change, energy supply
It is with great sadness to tell you that John passed away peacefully this morning with his wife, Mary, by his side. For those interested, funeral arrangements will follow.
The Campbell Family.
In John's memory, we are collecting donations for the National Amyloidosis Centre based at the Royal Free Hospital in London. Without their innovative research and essential support services, John would have not stayed with us so long. The link to donate is below π
@_captainscience@HisenseUK You can sometimes invert the door so it opens from the other. Failing that, for a decade or more I glue Von a wooden drawer handle with Araldite.
I didn't realise I lived in exotic circles but I brought some camomile teabags into hospital with me and the nurses look at them with wonder"do you want milk in that"!
@_captainscience@gentillapin If it is pure urushiol based, it is supposedly soluble in acetone (but also ethanolβ I would have thought IPA would dissolve it too) and benzene. I would think toluene would work unless of course it has begun to polymerise. Very powerful skin irritant too.
@ggkuhnle Years ago I tried tablets from Heslthspan that guaranteed 5 billion bacteria. I found it really upset my guts. Perhaps because I am on PPI so more bacteria will survive the gastric acid
@_captainscience@Hippiepig There's a fair amount of evidence that selected lactobacillus strains survive stomach acid and affect the gut but not many, if any, seem capable of establishing a long-term niche

@ChemistCraig I once witnessed a so-called Clan Gathering procession in Edinburgh and I guess over half were Canadians paying feasance to a Clan chief whose ancestors chucked them off their land
