This really does look like someone being treated as unpaid staff rather than a casual volunteer.

There are several red flags here. They were called a “trial staff member”, expected to be consistently available during busy periods, assessed on attendance and performance, and then let go for not giving enough time. That is much closer to employee style management than ordinary volunteering.

Another red flag is the apparent lack of clear expectations from the beginning. If regular hours, peak time coverage, or a minimum level of activity were required, that should have been explained clearly and put in writing before they gave up so much of their time.

Volunteers should be free to contribute around their existing responsibilities. They should not be made to feel that their unpaid labour is an obligation, or that they have failed because they could not meet unstated staffing expectations.

If an organisation wants employee level commitment, reliability, accountability, and performance, it should provide proper contracts, clear terms, appropriate protections, and seriously consider pay.

@Fauxrishi Thank you for posting this, a number of the traits they mentioned aren't even clinically recognised as traits attached of BPD. I did commented on their post with a link to the NHS page on BPD.
I got diagnosed in my 30s and so much made sense about my life and relations in general

@Erisalyoshy I see a lot of comments about pressure from religion or mysoginy etc, but I think it's more nuanced than that. Take tomboys for instance, today are rold they're trans, when they're not, they're enouraged to transition. Same with feminine men, not trans, but treated that way.

I can't but think the backlash against the trans community is down to a few high profile individuals that have abused those spaces ☹️
I think back to when I was younger, and I knew trans people and there wasn't the issues we are seeing today.

Delusional. Those bases are bilateral deals and US leverage, not Europe's charity. Without America, NATO collapses and Europe gets steamrolled while begging for help again. Middle East ops? US has carriers, Qatar, Bahrain, and global lift, doesn't need Europe's ports or permission. The real shock will be Europe discovering it's a defenseless freeloader the second the "empire" stops subsidizing it. America doesn't ask for permission to project power.

@elonmusk Interesting take, but as with oil, and othe commodities, we see production flow limited to keep supply demand high. As much as I'd like to believe in the good of humanity, humans being at the top still seek profits over people.

@sangelo69 @IRanMediaco That’s not how NATO works. The US doesn’t bankroll everyone, the shared budget is small and Germany pays a similar share. Most US defence spending is for its own military. Leaving NATO would weaken US influence and probably increase the amount the US has to spend on its military.

@MrVasireddi @sharma_views The US relies on it all for global reach, baring in mind the only time article 5 has been triggered was to come to the defence of America, where NATO, and especially the British, responded to 9/11.
It is a defencive coalition, not to be invoked because a member started a war.

As the US relies heavily on all NATO country's bases.
Out of NATO, the US would have to spend more than it currently does.
