Defaults don't kill credit markets. They stress them, force them to adapt and ultimately get stronger.
Grateful to @Yield_Summit for letting me make the case.
(1/3) Onchain credit has scaled quickly, and a meaningful default may be inevitable. Sidney Powell (@syrupsid), Co-Founder & CEO at @maplefinance, argues that a visible default could be constructive: a forcing function for better underwriting, transparency, and risk pricing.

Great article by @serotonin_hq on Onchain Credit.
Features in depth analysis of @maplefinance's growth and position as the leading lender to institutional borrowers
Average lending rates have dropped to 2.9% - lower than the 3-month U.S Treasury rate.
Onchain credit is filling the gap, providing $300Bn+ in stablecoins with yield-generating opportunities.
@solofunk dove into the data in our first research report on Onchain Credit.
Big news: SYRUP is now available on @Revolut in the UK and EU.
One of the world's largest fintechs, with 70M+ users across 39 countries, just opened the door for millions to access Maple in a few taps.
Onchain institutional credit yield meets mainstream finance.
βTicketing companies act as banks.
Whenever a show goes on, a venue typically signs a deal where they get capital upfront to pay the artist and the production.
Service fees are interest rates for that loan that the venue has taken from the ticketing company.β

Great read from my co-founder @joe_defi on @maplefinance response to rsETH.
This highlights the opportunity we see in Maple's hybrid approach to overcollateralized lending, tailored for institutions. Maple can offer borrowers triparty vaults at qualified custodians. Over the past 72 hours we've seen $500m in inbound borrow appetite.
The advantage of @maplefinance is flexibility. When risk changes, we can concentrate on institutional-quality yield beyond DeFi and keep lenders positioned in opportunities with stronger fundamentals. That matters in markets like this.
(1/7) Update from Maple
Maple has no active DeFi positions. We assessed risk exposure across DeFi and proactively removed all allocations. Through active risk management, Lenders have no exposure to rsETH or other indirect exposures, and the Maple platform operated as expected.
syrupUSDC and syrupUSDT have zero exposure to the rsETH exploit.
All capital was removed from Aave v3 mainnet before any impact. No exposure remains.
Maple has no loans backed by rsETH.
Best takeaway in this piece by @Dune : permissionless composability is itself a distribution channel.
@maplefinance syrupUSD across @aave , @Morpho , and @kamino shows what happens when institutional credit becomes usable collateral inside DeFi.
Had a blast chatting with @srimisra about the incredible growth in DeFi Lending over the last 12 months, culminating in @maplefinance largest ever loan of $500m to round out 2025
From yield farming gimmicks to $500M institutional loans - DeFi lending has finally found its product-market fit.
@maplefinance is at the sharp end of that shift - purpose-built for borrowers who need size, structure, and a 24-hour margin call window instead of instant liquidation.

Maple Finance CEO @syrupsid is speaking at @consensus2026 Wealth Management Day on May 6 in Miami.
As institutional adoption of onchain yield accelerates, Sid will share how Maple is bridging the gap between DeFi infrastructure and traditional allocators.
Big Beautiful Bitcoin Bond.
First Bitcoin-backed municipal bond hits market with a Moody's rating, and the first crypto-backed mortgages get Fannie Mae backing.
The bridge between TradFi and crypto is built on overcollateralized lending. @maplefinance thesis is that traditional capital markets will quickly adopt BTC backed fixed income.
@MoodysRatings
Maple's active loans were naturally affected by $BTC price performance and broader market conditions throughout Q1, but they're closing the quarter on a strong note with $350M in new loans issued in a single day.
When we started covering them, they had way less than $350M in total active loans. Now they can deploy that same amount in under 24 hours.
@maplefinance now stands at $1.2B in active loans and $4.6B in AuM, with syrupUSDT just crossing the $1B deposits mark.
The largest onchain asset manager now has two overcollateralized billion-dollar assets generating yield at scale.
Our Q1 report is dropping soon, and it's coming in a new format.
