🏥Announcing six new research projects aiming to improve end of life experiences in, and on discharge from, hospital.
Hospitals are extraordinary centres of clinical expertise. But they were never designed to provide the calm, highly personal support that people deserve at the end of life.
The new projects, some of which are funded in partnership with @LDShospcharity and @RBHCharity, aim to address a range of issues.
These include improving discharge processes and communication from hospital to community, identifying the need for and providing condition-specific palliative care in a timely manner, and exploring the impact of palliative care In-Reach services in emergency departments.

ありがとうございます What a privilege to present our Future Care Planning Cymru work at the 5th SCPSC 2026 in Sapporo, Japan. Huge interest in this topic worldwide, and similar challenges in talking about the latter phases of life. Have learned a lot. Arigatou gozaimasu
Introducing our next Research Grants Scheme, Opening 2 June – Care close to home, in and out of hours
💡Our new call for research seeks to fund projects of up to £150K. The theme closely aligns with:
👉Marie Curie’s mission to close the gap in end of life care.
👉Evidence gaps and research priorities identified by people with lived and professional experience.
👉The UK Government’s focus of shifting the balance of care from hospital to community and providing care at all hours.
Researchers, find out more and submit your expression of interest from 2 June to 17 July - https://t.co/PwfzXeScyj
What an honour. Today I was awarded the @EAPCvzw Post-doctoral Researcher Award prize.
It was a great opportunity to talk about my research on prognostication. Celebrate my colleagues. And highlight systemic challenges researchers face.

"No end‑of‑life decision happens in a vacuum. Choices are shaped by many things, and sometimes these are inequality, unmet need, patchy palliative care, and the grinding pressures of an overstretched NHS."

We know that some people already avoid contact with palliative care because they suspect it's what will happen, even though it doesn't.
That is unequally distributed. People in some marginalised groups are far more likely to suspect health teams, like any form of authority.
Are you an unpaid carer who has sight loss?
Researchers at Centre for Visions Services would like to talk to unpaid carers living with sight loss so they can understand the realities of it to develop a study.
