Fifty plus. One kid. Here's what I wish someone had told me at 35.
You don't balance it all. You rotate. Some years the career eats most of you. Some years the kids need you at every match and every exam. Some years your body sends you a bill. Pick the priority for this season and stop apologising for the ones on pause.
Kids rarely remember the big gestures. They remember the boring stuff. The same drive to school. The Sunday breakfast. The dad who put the phone face down when they started talking.
They also watch how you handle a bad day. Telling your son I messed up at work today, I'm tired teaches him more than any speech about resilience.
Pretending to be invincible just hands him the same burden 25 years later. The guilt is optional. It makes you worse at the very things you feel guilty about.
Drop a few balls. Just make sure you know which ones bounce.

@Santigold, Spank Rock, and @kilokish shed light on the scene they experienced, the boxes the industry put them in, and how the people telling its story shape what gets remembered.

When it comes to the music business, think of it like this, you got people who work at shoe factories that like shoes, you got people that work at shoe factories that like factories , both are important.
Ben Affleck says losing his parents taught him that resentment and petty disputes waste your life, while unresolved relationships never repair themselves with time
“One of the lessons for me was, at the end of life, what isn’t remembered or valued and just doesn’t matter is all the stupid little shit. Whatever it is—the internecine thing, the work conflict, the petty dispute, the shit we get involved in with ourselves, the little resentments, the time you spent being offended—that shit is just a waste of time.
“As much as you can let it go, I think that’s so clearly the way to try to live. If you don’t do it, if you don’t fix it, if you don’t resolve it, it’s not just going to happen with time.”
