With support from @TASOUganda , CEHURD has continued to implement integrated #LegalAidCamps as a core project mandate in the four districts of Yumbe, Abim, Lira, and Bukwo.
The team sensitized community members on the rights of persons living with #HIV, TB, and malaria, with particular emphasis on the right to non-discrimination, confidentiality, and adherence to treatment, while also addressing harmful practices such as FGM, which is still prevalent in Bukwo despite legal prohibitions.
During the outreaches, we delivered on-spot #LegalAid services alongside HIV testing and #TB screening, ensuring clients accessed both justice and health services in a single visit. Community members demonstrated strong knowledge of HIV prevention methods, including PMTCT, while the camps also identified and addressed critical legal barriers that undermine treatment access.
This integrated approach has helped reduce stigma-related disruptions to care, improved treatment adherence among #PLHIV and #AGYW, and leveraged existing DHRC structures to operationalize the right to health and challenge harmful practices at community level.
Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, the Deputy IGG will be joining us as a Keynote Speaker at Kitante Hill Secondary School grounds on 19th May 2026 for the Candlelight Memorial Day.

CEHURD, with support from @TASOUganda , is implementing a project titled supporting Uganda’s response to HIV/AIDS and TB reduction strategic plan. From 12th to 20th March 2026, CEHURD conducted mobile legal aid camps across five districts of Uganda, that is Mbale, Tororo, Soroti, Arua and Buyende, aimed at promoting access to justice and human rights for KPs, PLHIV and other priority populations.
The outreach was implemented in collaboration with key district stakeholders, including the Chief Administrative Office (CAO), District Community Development Office (DCDO), District Health Office (DHO) and the Probation Office, ensuring effective coordination and community mobilization.
Through these mobile legal aid camps, communities were sensitised on their rights, including the rights of PLHIV and TB, and their entitlements, with a focus on land ownership, family and children’s rights, and protection against gender-based violence. The camps also provided technical support on estate planning and intestate succession, empowering communities to claim their rights and access essential services.
Community members raised urgent issues including HIV-related stigma, barriers to healthcare, GBV, child and family neglect, land disputes, and human trafficking. In response, the CEHURD team conducted targeted sensitisation on HIV/AIDS, TB and gender-based violence, successfully resolved four legal cases, and secured airtime on community radio stations to reach a wider audience beyond the physical camps.
In partnership with local health centres, over 100 community members received HIV testing and TB screening. CEHURD remains committed to advancing equitable access to justice and strengthening Uganda’s response to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis through a human rights-based approach, ensuring vulnerable communities are informed, supported and empowered.
