@rjpelleg@g1Lr0yy what part of the album was “poetry about butts”? the whole thing was about loneliness as a gay man; i will concede that the she’s the best premise was misleading, but the album has a very clear message that goes way beyond your read
@rjpelleg@g1Lr0yy so you haven’t listened to the album and still came on here to talk about it as a whole when you haven’t bothered to stream it all the way through once. are you slow?
@L1b0n1 even if it were, her stuff is distinct enough from it. but it connects to this need people feel to intellectualize completely valid subjective opinions—sometimes you don’t like a song and it’s FINE! but don’t pretend the rest of us are stupid and don’t see thru it
this is just stupid in every way. if you think the music is boring then say that but this is a non-argument dressed up as a real critique. every single artist out there takes inspiration from other artists and nobody says anything
you can try to dress it up however you like but this is just another form of “old good, new bad”. today’s kids will be using this choreo to talk about how dancers were real dancers back in the day, not like the new pop girls of 2046 who all do *whatever thing they’re mad at then*
I promise you: nobody is lying about their favorite albums in order to impress you. That has never happened and it will continue to never happen for the remainder of time
@arvofart that makes sense. the tweet just meant brian eno and elliott smith make great, mind-stimulating music. the joke is that nobody exclusively listens to music that elevated. it was never meant to be taken seriously, and there are people who only listen to music like that
@arvofart op’s tweet is a joke. assuming everyone listens to x artist just to look cool is as ridiculous as saying nobody does. there are a lot of people in the world.
@arvofart i have a friend whose #1 song on spotify wrapped last year was the fate of ophelia by taylor swift, claims to hate it. she tells people it was a bjork song to seem “more niche” (her words). it happens if you meet people insufferable enough, many of whom are on this website
@isiteverydaycry@softer_s0ft3st a song like madonna’s music is endlessly influential because it innovates. she moved the needle forward. whitney was a voice like no other, but the music was bare if you took her voice out of the equation. madonna’s music however can stand on its own
@isiteverydaycry@softer_s0ft3st this song is just one example. it doesn’t really work as a mariah diss but madonna’s musical impact has been greater than whitney’s in spite of madonna’s limited vocal talent. taste, vision and production sensibilities will take you farther than being a vocal virtuoso
